West Virginia residents have cast votes for the first time since legislation passed last year that requires they present a valid photo ID in order to vote.

The May Primary Election has officially concluded, and the results have now been certified and submitted to the State.

I would like to sincerely thank our poll workers, election officials, and everyone who assisted throughout this election process. From preparation and training to Election Day and certification, many long hours were dedicated to ensuring the election was conducted accurately and professionally.

Thank you as well to the voters of our community for participating in the election and making your voices heard. We appreciate your patience, support, and continued commitment to the democratic process.

With the Primary Election now complete, our office is already preparing for the Fall General Election. There is still important work ahead, and we remain committed to ensuring every step of the process is handled with accuracy, professionalism, and integrity.

It is an honor to continue serving the voters of our community.

2026 Primary Election Completed Canvass and Declared Results
At 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 19, the Hardy County Board of Canvass completed the canvass and declared the results of the 2026 Primary Election, then adjourned immediately thereafter. Only a few community members attended the process, each staying for a short period of time.
The Board of Canvass will certify the election results for local and state races once the 48-hour recount period has ended. This period will begin after every county in the state has declared its results.

Canvas begins Monday May 18th..

THANK YOU, WEST VIRGINIA! Thanks to the hard work of approximately 8,500 dedicated poll workers, clerks, and staff working statewide, West Virginia conducted one of the most successful primary elections in recent history. But a large part of the success is owed to the participation of the voters.

The 2026 Primary Election unofficial results can be found on our website at GoVoteWV.com. Results will remain unofficial until canvassing takes place in each county on Monday, May 18.

It was a long day with a few bumps and hiccups along the way, but our poll workers and election officials worked hard throughout the day and well into the evening to ensure every vote was counted.
We finished counting around 9:30 tonight and were able to provide the information to the local radio station. However, we did experience technical difficulties getting the results transmitted to the Secretary of State’s Office for posting on their website.
I want to sincerely thank all of the workers who dedicated their time and effort today, as well as everyone who came out to cast their vote. Your patience, support, and participation are truly appreciated.
