The Westmoreland County Sheriff’s Office is investigating multiple reports of theft from mailboxes that occurred in the Oak Grove area of Westmoreland County late last night (9/12) and during the early morning hours today (9/13).
The incidents were reported along and near Bristol Mine Rd, Claymont Rd, Rappahannock Rd, Evermore Ln, Trigger Ln, Troy Farm Rd,Leedstown Rd, Bowie Rd.
Deputies have located mailboxes that had been opened, mail that had been removed, and mail discarded along roadways away from the addresses to which it was delivered. There have also been reports of Amazon packages being opened and a road sign being knocked over in the area.
The Sheriff’s Office is asking residents in and around these areas to review Ring, doorbell, security camera, and other surveillance footage from the overnight and early morning hours. We are particularly interested in any footage showing suspicious individuals, vehicles, or activity along these roads.
If you have potentially relevant video footage, please preserve it and contact the Westmoreland County Sheriff’s Office at 804-493-8066.
Residents are also encouraged to report any suspicious activity or vehicles they may have observed during this timeframe. Thank you for your assistance and vigilance in this matter.

Twenty five years have passed since our nation was forever changed on September 11, 2001, but the memories remain.
Today, we honor the nearly 3,000 innocent lives lost, the families who continue to carry their loss, and the brave first responders who answered the call without hesitation. We remember the firefighters, law enforcement officers, EMS personnel, military members, and ordinary citizens who displayed extraordinary courage and selflessness during one of the darkest days in our nation’s history.
May we never forget their sacrifice, their courage, and the unity that brought Americans together in the days that followed.

The Westmoreland County Sheriff’s Office is accepting applications full-time Deputy Sheriff position. Applicants must be at least 21 years of age, possess a high school diploma or GED, be a citizen of the United States, possess a valid Virginia operator’s license, and be able to work various shifts as needed. Applicants must successfully pass a physical examination, written examination, and background investigation. Applicants must also possess a valid DCJS Law Enforcement Training Certificate or have the ability to attend and successfully complete law enforcement training at the Academy. Computer experience is also required.

Salary range $50,235-$75,373

The closing date for applications is September 23, 2026. Applications may be picked up at the Westmoreland County Sheriff’s Office or completed online at www.westcoso.us. The Westmoreland County Sheriff’s Office annual “Shop with the Sheriff” program is quickly approaching. Each year, this special program provides Christmas presents to children in Westmoreland County and helps make the holiday season a little brighter for local families.

To assist with funding this important program, Westmoreland County Sheriff’s Office personnel will have the opportunity to participate in our “No Shave Until March 1st” Campaign. From September 1, 2026, through March 1, 2027, personnel who make a donation to participate will be permitted to grow facial hair in accordance with established guidelines.

When you notice some of our personnel looking a little different over the next several months, don’t be alarmed. It is all being done for an extremely worthy cause: helping provide Christmas gifts to children in our community.

Lock It Up, secure your doors and windows, even when you’re only stepping away for a short time. Light It Up, keep your home and property well-lit at night. Secure Your Vehicle, lock your vehicle, take your keys, and never leave valuables in plain sight. Watch Your Neighborhood, stay alert and report suspicious activity. Travel Smart, if you’re traveling, let a trusted neighbor know and avoid advertising your absence on social media.
