We had the opportunity to attend the soft opening of Persimmon, Montrose’s newest dining destination, and it did not disappoint.

From curry mussels served with sourdough bread and fresh hamachi sashimi to roasted scallops, USDA Prime Black Angus ribeye, mushroom mapo tofu, and steak fries seasoned with a unique malt five-spice blend, every dish brought something special to the table. And don’t skip dessert—the green tea cheese cake, sweet and savory sticky rice or the Hong Kong egg tart, all are the perfect finish to an incredible meal.

What we loved most was the variety. Whether you’re looking for seafood, steak, vegetarian options, or something adventurous, there’s truly something for everyone.

We’re excited to welcome Persimmon to our community and can’t wait for residents and visitors alike to experience this new addition to Montrose’s dining scene. Congratulations to the entire team, and thank you for inviting us to be part of your soft opening.

As City of Montrose offices close on Monday, May 25 in observance of Memorial Day, we pause not simply for a long weekend, but for a moment of national remembrance.

Memorial Day stands apart because it asks us to reflect on the men and women who gave their lives in service to our country. Across generations, Americans answered a call greater than themselves, leaving behind families, futures, and familiar places in defense of freedom and the values we hold dear.

In communities like Montrose, where veterans, military families, and traditions of service remain deeply rooted, the meaning of this day is especially personal. Memorial Day reminds us that the liberties we enjoy were not guaranteed; they were protected through sacrifice.

As flags are raised, ceremonies are held, and families gather together, may we all take a moment to honor those who never returned home. Their courage and legacy continue to shape our nation and inspire future generations.

On Monday, City Hall, the Downtown Visitor Center, Municipal Court, Animal Shelter, Montrose Pavilion Event Center, and Public Works will all close in observance of the holiday.

Police Department offices will be closed; however, officers will be on duty and responding to calls.

The Black Canyon Golf Course, as well as The Rusty Putter restaurant and the snack bar, will be open.

City residential trash customers who would normally receive service on Monday, May 25, will instead be served on Tuesday, May 26, and Wednesday, May 27.

Monday customers located south of San Juan Avenue and Highway 50 will be served on Tuesday, May 26. Monday customers residing north of San Juan Avenue and Highway 50 will be served on Wednesday, May 27.

Recycling customers who would normally receive collection service on Monday, May 25, will instead be served on Friday, May 29.

Residents with questions about route adjustments are encouraged to call City Hall at 970.240.1400 or visit www.CityofMontrose.org/Trash

City offices will reopen during regular business hours on Tuesday, May 26.
