🦘🚔 KANGAROO UPDATE! 🚔🦘

If you've been following the Facebook chatter, we can officially report that the wandering kangaroo has been safely returned home. Deputies Hennigar and Crenshaw responded to assist with what may be one of the more unusual calls of the year. After a little hopping around, the kangaroo was successfully reunited with its owner and is back where it belongs.

We're happy to report no deputies were injured in the pursuit, no citations were issued, and the suspect was released on its own recognizance. 😄 Thank you to everyone who shared information and kept an eye out. It's not every day we add "kangaroo wrangler" to the job description, but we're glad this story had a happy ending!

Sheriff Vandenberg had the honor of giving a commencement speech for the Keokuk High School Class of 2026 this past weekend. During his speech, he spoke about toughness, not quitting when life gets difficult, making a difference when given the opportunity, and the importance of faith. He shared with the graduates that accepting Jesus Christ into his life has been his greatest accomplishment.

Here is a clip of his speech if you would like to watch.

From all of us at the Lee County Sheriff’s Office, congratulations to all local graduates. We wish you the very best as you begin this next chapter.
