Sophmores Isaac Dilmore and Kyleise Kublo attended HOBY, Hugh O'Brien Youth Leadership Seminar at Millersville University. They joined nearly 200 high school students from more than 100 different schools across PA. They participated in a busy schedule that included Keynote speakers, group discussions, workshops, activities, and community service. We are very proud of their hard work and look forward to their leadership journey!

In science class, Lathrop Street 5th Graders participated in an activity titled, “Who Polluted the Susquehanna?” They started with a container of clear water in the middle of the room representing a clean river hundreds of years ago. We read a story where each student was given a character role and a mysterious sealed container with contents inside. As we read the story, students listened for their role and added the contents of their container into “the river”. Throughout the activity students saw how easily the river was polluted. This opened up a great discussion on the importance of educating others about keeping our waterways healthy and clean.

As a follow up and give back to the community, these 5th graders researched, designed, and drew beautiful messages and illustrations about the importance of protecting our Earth. They took their ideas and designs and displayed them on paper grocery bags from our local Price Chopper supermarket. These bags were shared in our classroom and then returned to Price Chopper to be distributed to the community. We hope you enjoy looking at the incredible ideas, designs and messages! Maybe you’ll be lucky enough to receive one of our special “Celebrate the Earth” bags!
