Huge thank you to the families and partners who came out to support the trout release and fundraiser! We appreciate Friends of the River Uncompahgre - ForU so much for hosting an informational conservation walk along the river for students during the event. We also want to give a big thanks to Gunnison Gorge Anglers for hosting fly fishing and fly tying lessons during the event and for supporting our Trout in the Classroom program over the years!

Riverbottom Park was buzzing with activity Wednesday morning as middle school students from Outer Range and Peak Academy congregated near the Uncompahgre.

A message from OR middle schooler, Grayce, about the Outer Range and Peak Academy Trout in the Classroom program:

We wanted to share this picture and video because we wanted to show you how much they have grown. November 13 is the video, and November 20th is the picture. In only 6 days, they grew so much. If you want to see what they look like now, you can come to the trout release on Friday, May 3rd from 8:30am-11:00am at Riverbottom Park.

The beautiful sunshine brought with it a week full of joyful, shared experiences. Our preschool learners, after studying how to grow and harvest wheat and exchanging family stories through each of their own cultural bread recipes, harnessed the power of the sun to make their own loaf together. Alongside a community partner, they were able to share their bounty with all of us when they made us finger sandwiches for snack. Yum! Students worked together to care for our campus, including giving our trees a much needed drink after our dry winter. While advocating for increased opportunities to increase our knowledge of local birds, our elementary students refined their letter writing skills before heading to the park on their bikes. And finally, we had the chance to celebrate one of our tremendous educators Ms. Tiff, winner of this month’s KREX Golden Apple award.
