The work of the Town of Montreat this summer on their new Town Hall highlights both the creativity of our municipalities and the value of partnerships.

The project required a collaborative effort between Montreat and the Town of Black Mountain. The site of Town Hall was formerly inside the Black Mountain town limits. Municipal leaders worked with the state legislature to de-annex from Black Mountain and annex to the Town of Montreat. The result? A beautiful new complex for the area.

Kudos to these Towns for working together to solve community needs!

And the Winner Is…

Willa Roberts!

Willa Roberts, age 9, is the winner of the Mayor’s Chalk Art Challenge. Willa’s masterpiece, Rainbow Dog, was a runaway winner against the other eight entries of the contest. Willa was inspired by her own dogs as well as the color palette in her chalk box. Willa is a third grader at Black Mountain Primary School, and lives on Woodland with her mom and dad, Cameron and Bill Roberts.

Mayor Helms, in a Zoom conversation with Willa, thanked her for her entry and inspiring others to be a part of it. “We just wanted to get people outside and to do something positive during this pandemic”, the Mayor told Willa. “And you certainly did. I’m grateful for all the ‘artists’ who participated”

The second highest vote getter was Margaret Bauer with her tribute to the graduating class of 2020.

As Mayor Helms said, thanks to all who participated including the artists and those who “Liked” the artwork on Facebook. If you want to see Willa’s entry as well as the other eight, go to: https://www.facebook.com/pg/TownofMontreat/photos/?ref=page_internal
