Action Alert: Expansion of Euthanasia, Hearing at 9:00AM

Hello Pelicans,

The Senate Health and Welfare Committee has decided to take up a bill introduced in 2021 by Senators McCormack, Clarkson, Lyons, and Sirotkin that has the sole aim of ensuring more sick and scared Vermonters take their own lives, couched in euphemism about "patient choice" and the like.

Specifically, the bill:
1. Would eliminate the need for a patient to be in the physical presence of a doctor when both oral requests are made requesting medication to be "self-administered to hasten the patient's death."

2. Would eliminate a requirement that "the prescribing physician have conducted a physical examination of the patient in order to determine that the patient was suffering a terminal condition."

3. Would eliminate a requirement that "the physician must have waited at least 48 hours after the occurrence of the required events before writing the prescription" for this self-administered concoction to hasten the patient's death.

4. Would also "provide immunity for any person who acts in good faith compliance with the provisions of Vermont's patient choice at end of life laws."

In the middle of a global pandemic, this was seen as among the most pressing health issues in the state by the current regime, which has time and time again taken morbid positions inhibiting the vitality of Vermont. We're already familiar with their efforts to remove any and all restrictions on the killing of preborn people in our State, and the support of Phil Scott for that travesty. Now, they're coming for vulnerable Vermonters at the other stage of the lifecycle.

Where Phil Scott has remained silent, we must make our voices heard. As fellow Pelicans, you are strongly encouraged to call your State Senator and express your displeasure (please message if you would like help finding their contact information, or a template). If you know any Vermonters who are at potential risk of becoming a (assisted) su***de statistic, please make an effort to be in solidarity with them and show them that every second of life is worth living. And if possible, please attend the Senate Committee on Health and Welfare meeting tomorrow morning at 9:00 AM, where the Executive Director of the Vermont Right to Life Committee, Mary Hahn Beerworth, will be speaking. All Pelicans, and all acknowledgers of the sanctity of human life, are strongly encouraged to attend this year's Rally for Life on January 22nd, organized by the Vermont Right to Life Committee, whom all should support and follow if they have not already.

This is likely our only chance to be heard before Proposition 5 enshrines murdering children as the right to "personal reproductive liberty" in the Constitution of our State, the bellwether of the Nation.

With even our "Republican" governor having laid down his laurels on life, we are literally the last voice of the four or more children who will be murdered in this Great State every day, unless we appear with full force. We are the voice of the baby only hidden behind two inches of fat, about to be brutally dismembered, and we are the voice of the terminally ill person pressured to take their own life. The odds may seem insurmountable, but we are with the Creator of the threatened souls, while those who would murder the innocent have no helper. And so we will win, because there is no other option. Even if it will take 100 years, we will win, and those at this event will be on the right side of history. While the misguided will scream of choice over everything, we have no choice, but to circumscribe the limits of choice with the sacrosanct lines of life.

The day you pass pro-life legislation, if you’re trying to win people over, should also be the day that you are passing new spending bills to support adoption, to support pregnant mothers—to support, not just crisis pregnancy centers, but crisis first-two-years-of-life centers! And that doesn’...

Why do we need Labor Day?

Because over 150 years after President Lincoln uttered these words we still don't understand them.

Here is a sobering report where the US ranks behind Mexico in worker benefits.
https://www.zenefits.com/workest/data-reveals-united-states-ranks-last-in-worker-benefits/

"The American Solidarity Party believes that political economy (economics) is a branch of political ethics, and therefore rejects models of economic behavior that undermine human dignity with greed and naked self-interest. We advocate for an economic system which focuses on creating a society of wide-spread ownership (sometimes referred to as “distributism”) rather than having the effect of degrading the human person as a cog in the machine." - ASP Platform

Texas just became the first state to pass a heartbeat bill, effectively banning all abortions once cardiac activity is detectable.

And here’s the deal, at New Wave Feminists we HATE abortion. It’s a bastion of patriarchy mislabeled as a “feminist issue.”

For far too many, abortion has been perceived as a necessary evil in our society. People only feel they need access to it due to of lack of access to preventative measures and truly comprehensive s*x ed (I’m not talking the PP bu****it, I mean REAL education on our fertility, both male and female), and inadequate resources should one become pregnant.

I know this, because that’s 99% of the feedback I get when talking to someone considering abortion. They aren’t focused on the law. They’re focused on the reality of their current situation. They’re gonna lose their job. They don’t know how to access healthcare. They are going to be kicked out of their home. They’re being pressured into terminating by their partner who doesn’t want the financial and emotional responsibly of raising a child.

This is real.

Nobody grows up “wanting” to get an abortion. They often make that “choice” because it feels like they have no other real options.

No matter what the laws are, we must focus just as much time, money, and energy on building systems that prevent unintended pregnancies in the first place, and fighting against broken ones that make pregnancy a liability for so so many people in our state.

The humanity of the unborn should absolutely be protected. As Consistent Life Feminists, we believe in bodily autonomy from the moment our bodies first come into existence. These children must be humanized but so should their parents.

Making abortion illegal is one thing, but those seeking them will still find a way if they’re desperate enough. Which is why it would be much more effective to make abortion unnecessary to begin with. We can’t just cut off supply without first addressing demand.

So, Texas, I hope to see you putting just as much energy into:

•Fertility Awareness Curriculum In Schools (including fetal development information)

•Pregnancy Prevention

•Affordable Childcare

•Access To Housing

•More Funding To Food Banks

•Knowledge About Accessing Medicaid (because so so many people facing unintended pregnancies don’t even know about this, and it’s a major reason they decide to abort)

•Pregnant And Parenting Student Housing On Campuses (and systems that prevent them from losing scholarships should they become pregnant)

•Protocols That Take Special Care Of Pregnant Migrants Seeking Asylum

•Laws That Protect Pregnant Individuals At Their Workplaces And In Their Schools.

…and the list goes on.

Please hear us, because we’re the ones listening to them when they call us crying as their worlds are unraveling. They don’t care about all of the money being poured into laws when they have .75 cents in their bank accounts and have no clue how they can possibly bring their child into this world.

You got your law. Now the real work begins. It’s no longer an option to ignore these broken systems. Now it’s a necessity to fix them.
