The heat and and humidity is here! Early in the summer, during these first hot and humid days we are not acclimated to the heat like we are later in the season. With the NWS HeatRisk, the risk of heat-related impacts are provided on a town by town basis: we encourage you to check out the interactive map at https://www.wpc.ncep.noaa.gov/heatrisk/.

In 2025, more than 17,000 students, teachers, and chaperones visited Vermont State Parks through school-sponsored programs and activities. From geology and Vermont history, to hiking with classmates and end-of-year celebrations, weโ€™re always happy to welcome students to the parks.

This is one of the busiest weeks of the year for school group visits before summer break begins next week! To celebrate, hereโ€™s a scavenger hunt featuring things you might spot on your visit.

Have fun, and see you in the parks!

Congrats to Central Vermont Solid Waste Management District for yesterday's GRAND OPENING of the Eco Depot!

The new facility in Berlin can handle anything: hazardous materials, batteries, and other tough stuff that doesn't go in a recycling bin. ACCD's Brownfields Remediation Fund put $63,000 towards a $109,000 clean-up job, clearing the way for CVSWMD to help Vermonters clean up!

It's camping season, please remember - don't move firewood!

Hidden introduced invasive species can hitch a ride and threaten healthy forests. Buy it where you burn it, burn it all before you leave, and keep firewood local.

And don't forget to extinguish fires completely before leaving!

Camping season is here! Moving firewood might seem harmless, but it can spread invasive insects, diseases, and pests to new areas. Many invasive species spend part of their life cycle hidden beneath bark or inside wood, making them difficult to detect. Transporting firewood over long distances can introduce these species into forests that may not be prepared for them. This camping season: *Buy firewood where you burn it *Burn all firewood before you leave *Don't transport leftover wood to another location. Help keep forests healthy by keeping firewood local. In Vermont, all plastic, glass, and metal beverage containers can go in the recycling. For certain types of beverages that are covered within Vermont's Bottle Bill, the empty containers can also be redeemed for 5ยข per container.

Redeem or recycle: beer, wine coolers, seltzer water, soda, fizzy drinks, malt beverages, spirits, and liquor. Look for "VT" on the redemption stamp.

Recycle only: sport drinks, hard cider, wine, juice, water, and all beverages purchased out of state

Both redeeming and blue bin recycling are great options and keep the containers out of the trash.

If you don't redeem your empties, the 5 ยข per container goes to the Vermont Clean Water Fund.
