Utility Work: The Village of Montpelier Water-Sewer Department is currently repairing a water main break on Snyder St, near N. Platt.

Please use caution if driving in the area, as our crews work to resolve the issue.

The Montpelier Police humbly reflect on this Memorial Day, saluting all of those brave men and women who gave the ultimate sacrifice for our country.

In 1982, Pres. Ronald Reagan gave a speech on Memorial Day, and in speaking of those lost in battle, he said this….

“Our first obligation to them and ourselves is plain enough. The United States and freedom for which it stands, the freedom of which they died must endure and prosper. Their lives remind us that freedom is not bought cheaply, it has a cost. It imposes a burden. And just as they, when we commemorate, were willing to sacrifice, so too must we, in a less final, less heroic, way be willing to give of ourselves. “

Remember their sacrifices by giving of ourselves….

National Police Week, May 10-16, 2026 -

In 1962, President John F. Kennedy designated May 15 as National Peace Officers Memorial Day. Since then, we have dedicated the week the 15th falls within, as National Police Week.

National Police Week is a time of remembrance, reflection, and gratitude for law enforcement officers who have made the ultimate sacrifice, as well as those who continue to serve. It continues to remind us of the courage, service, and sacrifice behind the badge—and the enduring legacy of those who gave their lives in protection of others.

MPD humbly remembers all those who have given their life in service to their communities. And we honor all those who continue to have the courage to serve with honor.
