The world woke the morning of 9-11-2001, went to school or work, it began like any other day.

By 08:46 AM we all knew this day was different. At 09:03 AM, those of us not in NYC stood silent. It was deafening. Our hearts beating were the loudest thing in the room. By 09:37 AM a third plane struck the Pentagon. And by 10:03 AM a fourth plane went down in Pennsylvania.

There are only a couple of us still on the PD who were officers that fatal day. While we were hundreds of miles away our thoughts were with all those affected, and prayers for our fellow public servants rushing to the scene flowed.

Today marks 25 years. The world has changed. But, we will never forget all those whose lives were taken. We will never forget all those officers, fire fighters and other servants who gave aid.

MPD wishes to honor this day with a humble attitude. We will never forget this day.

First day of school! We were so happy to see all of those smiling faces at school today!

We want to take this moment to remind everyone to make sure you are paying attention to the school busses and their stop lights! Help keep our children safe!

We also want to remind parents that following the rules for drop-off at school makes things go much smoother. For those wishing to drop their child off out of the vehicle you are to do this in the curb lane. For those of you who are wishing to walk your children to the door, you should park in the front lot and then walk your child to the door. DO NOT stop in the parking lot and drop off children from your vehicle. That is not the place for that, and you not only create a safety issue, but a parking lot jam.

MPD would like to take a moment and give a big shout out to the Montpelier Parks & Recreation, the Montpelier Bean Days, the Montpelier Area Chamber of Commerce, and all those involved with the annual Bean Days event. This year we had some challenges with the massive rain. No one can really plan for what happened and trust us, those involved with the festival were as disappointed as anyone on Friday. Saturday turned out to be a much better day!

However, we shouldn't dismiss all of the hard work and ingenuity that goes into planning this event. So, weather impacted or not, we want to take a moment to say THANK YOU to all those who had a hand in planning, organizing, setting up, volunteering and working the 2026 Bean Days Festival. We appreciate you!

See you in 2027!

The MPD UAV Unit took this photo of the sky during some training time. According to AirNow.gov, the current air quality in the area is considered hazardous at an Air Quality Index of 387.

If you have to be outside, take whatever precautions you can! Be Safe!

Public Assistance Requested (6/16/2026 at 1318 PM):

On 6/5/26, the Montpelier Police responded to a hit/skip accident at Circle K (110 Broad St.). We are seeking assistance with identifying and contacting the male subject in the photograph. The vehicle driven was described as a dark colored pick up truck.

Utility Work: The Village of Montpelier Water-Sewer Department is currently repairing a water main break on Snyder St, near N. Platt.

Please use caution if driving in the area, as our crews work to resolve the issue.

The Montpelier Police humbly reflect on this Memorial Day, saluting all of those brave men and women who gave the ultimate sacrifice for our country.

In 1982, Pres. Ronald Reagan gave a speech on Memorial Day, and in speaking of those lost in battle, he said this….

“Our first obligation to them and ourselves is plain enough. The United States and freedom for which it stands, the freedom of which they died must endure and prosper. Their lives remind us that freedom is not bought cheaply, it has a cost. It imposes a burden. And just as they, when we commemorate, were willing to sacrifice, so too must we, in a less final, less heroic, way be willing to give of ourselves. “

Remember their sacrifices by giving of ourselves….
