With under a week left until the August 11th primary election, VPIRG Votes invited each of the Democratic candidates for governor and lieutenant governor to record a brief message as a closing statement, so voters can make an informed decision. All of them have submitted videos making their case as to why they deserve your vote, and you can view them all at www.VPIRGVotes.org/Closing-Statements

Remember, if you received an early voting ballot, it is likely too late to return by mail. Make sure to drop it off at your town clerk's office, a ballot dropbox, or bring it to vote in-person at your polling location on election day.

The candidates for Vermont governor filed their personal financial disclosures recently, including copies of their IRS 1040 forms and reporting individual stock holdings valued at $25,000 or more.

There are some headline retirements from the State House this year, including Speaker Jill Krowinski and Senate President Pro Tem Phil Baruth. Several committee chairs -- Sen. Clarkson and Reps. Birong, Conlon, James, Marcotte and Sheldon -- are also saying, "goodbye."

Come January, new faces are set to fill many of the key roles dictating which bills receive attention and who gets to testify on them.

Yesterday, we looked at the contested primaries for the Vermont State Senate. Today, let’s review the House of Representatives primaries.

There will be Democratic contests in 14 districts. Republicans have primaries in two districts. There are no Progressive primaries.

In both the ORA-WAS-ADD district and the WDH-3 district, there will be contested races for both Democrats and Republicans.

Unlike the general election in November, you must request a primary election ballot in order to receive one. Thankfully, that’s easy to do at vote.vermont.gov!

The field is set for Vermont’s 2026 State Senate primaries.

Vermont has 30 state senators representing 16 districts — and this year, several Senate districts will see contested party primaries before the November general election.

On the Democratic ballot, contested Senate primaries will take place in these districts:

Bennington
Chittenden-Central
Chittenden-Southeast
Orange
Washington
Windsor

On the Republican ballot, the Addison Senate district will have a contested primary.

There are no contested primaries on the Progressive ballot.

Primary Election Day is Tuesday, August 11 and early voting will begin in late June.
