Water Shutdown June 10, 2026

Please be advised that today, June 10th, 2026 the City of Montpelier Department of Public Works had to shut down water services on Hubbard Park Drive and Parkside Drive due to a water main break on Hubbard Park Drive. We anticipate the water being shut down for 4 to 6 hours. Currently, we do not anticipate a boil water. We will update once water has been restored.

WATER SHUTOFF NOTICE

The City of Montpelier Department of Public Works (DPW) has scheduled a contractor to repair a leaking water valve at the intersection of Main St. and Barre Street. Water will be shutoff on the south side of Barre Street from Hubbard Street to Main Street, and on Main Street from #44 Main Street to the Main Street Bridge beginning on Monday, May 11th 2026. Water will shut down no earlier than 08:00 AM and will be off for approximately 6 hours. Note there are two water mains on Barre St. and we do not anticipate that buildings along the North side of Barre St. will lose water during this repair.

Once the system is turned back on, you may experience some discolored water. Please run the cold water for approximately 5-10 minutes to clear the water.

PUBLIC NOTICE

City of Montpelier Department of Public Works

Notice- a section of concrete sidewalk on State Street, near Woodbury Mountain Toys, will be replaced on April 23, 2026, under project warranty.

Details:
The sidewalk was originally installed as part of the Stormwater Project completed last year. The surface has since deteriorated, exposing the underlying stone aggregate. The Department of Public Works met with the contractor earlier this week and has scheduled the replacement to be completed during this week.

Access:
Access to downtown businesses on State Street will be maintained throughout the duration of this work.

WATER MAIN FLUSHING

The Montpelier Water Division will be flushing and checking all municipal hydrants within the city, beginning Monday, April 27th, and continuing through May 8th.

This operation may cause low water pressure in the hill sections of the city. In the event you experience dirty water, leave a cold-water faucet running until the line clears. If you have questions, please call our Water/Sewer Supervisor Sid Cushing at the Public Works Garage at 223-9510

What You’ll Do:
-- Supervise and mentor a team of skilled mechanics.
-- Oversee maintenance and repairs for the City’s automotive and heavy equipment fleet.

-- Collaborate with the Director of Public Works on future equipment bids and budgeting.

What You’ll Need:
-- High school diploma or vocational certificate.
-- Valid Vermont Class B CDL (Tanker endorsement & VT Inspection License obtainable within 90 days).
-- Strong leadership skills and a commitment to shop safety.

The City of Montpelier Department of Public Works is issuing a water shutdown notice for Friday, February 27th, 2026 for Lower State Street from the Green Mount Cemetery to Lague Drive, all customers on Lague Drive, Quesnel Drive, Ga***rd Drive, Graves Street and Overlook Drive beginning no earlier than 09:00 AM.
