Mayor Mullins joined fellow municipal leaders from across the region at the Southwest Mississippi Mayors Association summer meeting held in Brookhaven on June 11.

The meeting provided valuable updates from federal representatives, municipal insurance providers, and economic development leaders, while also addressing important topics impacting communities throughout Southwest Mississippi, including economic growth, public safety, and workforce challenges.

Featured speakers included representatives from the offices of U.S. Senators Cindy Hyde-Smith and Roger Wicker, Congressman Michael Guest, the Mississippi Municipal Service Company, Natchez Inc., and the Mississippi Bail Agents Association.

Mayor Mullins remains committed to working alongside other municipal leaders to share ideas, strengthen partnerships, and advocate for initiatives that benefit the Town of Monticello and communities throughout Southwest Mississippi.

The Southwest Mississippi Mayors Association, organized under the Mississippi Municipal League, brings together mayors with a common goal of improving the quality of life and opportunities for the citizens they serve.

The Town would like to thank all of the volunteers, coaches, parents, field crews, and everyone who worked hard to help make the All-Star Warm Up Tournament a success this weekend at the Sports Complex.

A special thank you goes to those who spent countless hours preparing the fields and facilities to ensure everything was ready for a great day of baseball!

We appreciate everyone who gave their time and effort to help provide a great experience for the players, families, and fans. Thank you for helping make this tournament a success!⚾️

Many of you may have heard the Town’s weather sirens sounding today. We’re excited to report that Mayor Mullins, Tony Norwood, Phillip Moore, and James Brown have successfully restored 2 of the Town’s 4 weather sirens to working order! 🚨

The team will continue working tomorrow to get the remaining sirens back online. We appreciate their hard work and dedication to improving emergency preparedness and public safety for our community.

Thank you for your patience as we continue making these important upgrades.

Earlier today, a contractor accidentally struck one of the Town’s water lines. We want to give a big thank you to Phillip Moore and our Public Works crew for responding after hours and working quickly to repair the damage and restore service.

The line has been repaired and the affected area has been flushed. However, some residents may experience temporary water discoloration as the system continues to clear.

We appreciate the dedication of our Public Works team and thank our residents for their patience and understanding. 💧👏

Today during lunch, Mayor Mullins held the Town’s monthly safety meeting, focusing on the importance of workplace inspections, maintaining safe job sites, and continuing to promote a strong culture of safety throughout all departments.

Mayor Mullins also recognized the Town’s high school summer workers for their willingness to learn, work hard, and serve the community during their summer employment. Investing in young people and providing hands-on experience helps build the next generation of leaders and workers for our community.

Lunch was held at Rustic Barrel, and we appreciate their hospitality!

The Town of Monticello is proud to recognize an outstanding group of young men — and one hardworking young lady — who have been helping serve our community this summer. They have done an excellent job, and Mayor Mullins wanted to make sure these young workers were given responsibilities they could take pride in and receive recognition for.

One of those projects was the restoration of the Coopers Ferry water wheel. We’re glad so many people noticed it back in operation, because it gives us the opportunity to recognize the hard work these young workers have put in around town.

Mayor Mullins has even more improvements planned for Coopers Ferry in the future, but thanks to recent contractor work, the walking bridge is now back open!

If you see this crew working around town, blow the horn, give them a thumbs up, and let them know they’re appreciated. Investing in our youth is investing in the future of our community.
