Sean Gaskell and his West African kora has arrived! He'll still need time to set up and get the kora tuned, so join us at 3pm for this unique and informational concert! Walk into the lobby and take a left into the Art & Sherry Morgan Program Room! Hope to see y'all there!

Join us today at 3 pm in the Art and Sherry Morgan room for an afternoon concert.

The kora is a 21 stringed West African harp and is traditionally played by oral historians known as Griots. Many songs featured on the kora preserve an 800 year history dating back to the founding of the Mande empire.

And now, the very instrument has made its way to Monticello with Sean Gaskell! He studied under the extensive instruction of Moriba Kuyateh and the late Malamini Jobarteh in Gambia, and both Youssoupha Cissokho and Mamadou Cissokho in Senegal. Gaskell has presented adult, youth, and family programs at over 400 libraries and a multitude of k-12 schools, colleges, universities and assisted living facilities throughout the United States and Canada. Mario Kart was so much fun today! The kids really poured their all on the race circuit despite the heat! Winners of the races were Jacob, Makalya, Oliver, Peyton,Logan, Jamarion, Neaveh, Noah, Corey, Allivia, Eric and Jovian! MVP to Madison for running in the most races. Thanks to the National Honor HS girls, Mr. Fred, Brandi and staff who helped make it all run smoothly.
