9/11 Memorial Walk
The walk will be Friday, September 11, at 0800. If you are wanting to participate, please start arriving at 0730 as we will be stepping off at 0800. The walk will begin at Monticello station 1, continue down Broad Street to the red light turning down Sellers, stop at the sheriff’s office, then return on the same path back. You are welcome to walk in full gear or regular clothing. If you wear gear, remove your boots and wear tennis shoes. If you only wear regular clothing wear department t-shirts. Please spread the word and we hope you make plans to attend!

We would like to take a moment to recognize and most importantly, thank Mr. Billy Fraysier and his company,
B & B Glassworx for donating their time, equipment, and glass to replace a broken window in our fire station. We are sincerely grateful to you and all of the many folks and businesses here in our community that always go above and beyond to help us.

Y’all make sure to go see Mr. Billy for all your glass repair/replacement needs!

This morning we responded to a Life360 Crash Alert on Highway 84 near the Lawrence/Lincoln County line. Upon arrival in the area, there was no contact made with an accident, however the source of the alert was found. If you believe that this could be your device, please contact us about picking it up. You must be able to show that it is your device.

Update: Owner was found and phone has been returned!

🚨The "box alarm" refers to a historic firefighting dispatch system where citizens pulled street-corner telegraph boxes to alert fire stations. Invented in 1852 by Dr. William Channing and Moses Farmer, and later commercialized by the Gamewell Fire Alarm Telegraph Company, these systems enabled immediate, pre-planned emergency responses decades before the creation of 911.

👨‍🚒 Invented in Boston, the system worked by connecting street boxes via hardwired circuits to central stations and firehouses. When a lever was pulled, a clockwork mechanism rotated a coded notched wheel. This wheel opened and closed the circuit, sending electrical pulses corresponding to a unique box number, allowing firefighters to respond immediately to the correct area of an emergency.

Monticello Fire Department is currently experiencing issues with the non emergency phone lines in our station. For any assistance OTHER THAN AN EMERGENCY, call the Lawrence County Sheriffs office non emergency line and they can further direct you to someone who can assist you.

Chris Rogers, a part-time firefighter for the Town of Monticello, a police officer for the Town of Prentiss, a lieutenant for Tri-Community volunteer fire department, and a veteran of the United States Army, embodies the principles of selfless service, professionalism, and integrity. Your tireless efforts and dedication to serving others have not gone unnoticed. We extend our sincerest gratitude to you, sir.
