Congratulations to Firefighter Bo Nelson on being named WCEPD Citizen of the Year!

Not only does Bo serve proudly on the Monticello Fire Department, but he’s also an active and well-known member of the community. We’re proud to call him one of our own!

On Monday night, we had the privilege of joining the Monticello Lions for their annual Chili Cook Off. This is an event that we look forward to every year, as it gives us some time to fellowship with a great community partner. We’re proud to say that this year, Captain Jared Parker took home the 1st place trophy and Firefighter Cody Robinson finished 3rd!

The Lions also presented the Fire Department with a generous donation to purchase a juvenile training mannequin, that will allow us to have more realistic training and be better suited to protect the members of this community.

We can’t thank the Lions enough for their continued support and we’re already looking forward to next year!

MONTICELLO — Monticello firefighters have surpassed 400 calls for the year, reinforcing what Fire Chief Jake Olinger described as the city’s “new normal” as development and population growth continue.

Hey Monticello! With the recent snow and some public discussion, we felt it would be a good idea to issue a few reminders about fire hydrant accessibility.

Every second counts in a developing structure fire. The added time it could take to identify, clear, and connect to a snow covered hydrant could mean the difference between room and contents to a total loss.

Being a good neighbor means being aware of hydrants within your area. There's not a hydrant at every house, but the hydrants nearby are what we'll be using to save your house. If you have the physical ability to adopt a hydrant and keep it clear, it's a great way to be neighborly, while protecting you and your family at the same time.

Lastly, don't use plows or snowblowers to clear hydrants. The only thing worse than a snow covered hydrant, is a broken hydrant.

Thanks for looking out for each other Monticello! Stay safe!

Be advised: Monticello Fire was conducting some training tonight (12/8) and broadcasting exercise transmissions over our internal radio channels. There have been some false reports going around social media and we wanted to notify the public there is no ongoing incident at this time.

It’s bittersweet to congratulate and wish a happy retirement to Firefighter Tony Fair. For 13 years, Tony served Monticello and was well known for his calm presence on the fire scene, being a hard worker who always had an answer to a question, and one of our best drivers and reliable pump operators. Thank you, Tony, for your dedication and service to our department and community!

The Monticello Fire Department will be conducting a live training burn today on the southwest edge of town. This exercise provides our firefighters with valuable, real-world training in a controlled environment.

Residents may notice visible smoke or emergency vehicles in the area throughout the day. Please avoid the training site for your safety and the safety of our crews.

On this day, we remember the heroism of those who rushed into danger on 9/11 and the many who gave their lives so others could live. Out of that tragedy came a unity that reminded us of the strength we share when we stand together. May we continue to honor their sacrifice by caring for one another and holding fast to the freedoms they sought to protect.
