🍽️🚒 More Than a Meal 🚒🍽️

One of the longest-standing traditions in the fire service happens around the kitchen table.

Every shift, firefighters come together to cook a meal, pull up a chair, and enjoy time as a family. Around this table, stories are shared, some absolutely true, some that may have grown a little over the years, but every one of them comes with plenty of laughs.

It’s where friendships are built, lessons are passed down, and memories are made. While the trucks and equipment help us do the job, it’s traditions like these that help make a firehouse a home.

Tonight, the crew at Station 10 is keeping that tradition alive. ❤️🚒

🚒🤝 Building strong partnerships to keep Montgomery safe!

Fire Chief Collier, Chief of Staff Gauntt, members of Montgomery Fire Rescue’s Training Division, and the Montgomery Police Department recently visited Hyundai HMMA to tour the facility and strengthen relationships with their team.

The visit provided an opportunity to learn more about each other’s capabilities, resources, and needs, helping ensure a coordinated response should an emergency ever occur.

We are fortunate to have a community partner like Hyundai HMMA that is committed to working alongside first responders and investing in the safety of our city. Partnerships like these help make Montgomery stronger and safer for everyone.

Thank you to Hyundai HMMA for your hospitality and continued support of Montgomery’s emergency responders! 🚒🏭🚓

🚒🎉 A Well-Earned Farewell! 🎉

Last week, Montgomery Fire Rescue gathered at Station 9 to celebrate the retirement of Sgt. Keel after 28 years of dedicated service.

Firefighters from across the department stopped by to share stories, laughter, and well wishes as Sgt. Keel closed out an incredible career serving the citizens of Montgomery. Over nearly three decades, he has made a lasting impact on the department and the many firefighters who had the opportunity to work alongside him.

Thank you, Sgt. Keel, for your years of commitment, leadership, and service. We wish you nothing but the best in this next chapter of life—enjoy retirement, you’ve earned it! 🚒👏🎊

🚒 Honoring Our History, Celebrating Our Legacy

Montgomery Fire/Rescue was proud to welcome retired Fire Chief Jim Sutherland for a special visit this week.

Chief Sutherland dedicated 27 years of service to the citizens of Montgomery, serving from May 1957 until his retirement on May 4, 1984. He led the department as Fire Chief for four years and played an important role in shaping Montgomery Fire/Rescue during a period of significant growth and change.

During his visit, Chief Sutherland toured Station 10 to see firsthand the many advancements in firefighting, emergency medical services, communications, and technology that have transformed the department since his retirement more than four decades ago. He also visited Station 2, where he once served during his career.

At both stations, Chief Sutherland spent time with our firefighters, sharing stories from his years on the job, recounting memorable moments from Montgomery’s fire service history, and enjoying plenty of laughs along the way. His visit served as a reminder that while equipment and technology continue to evolve, the dedication to serving our community remains unchanged.

Montgomery Fire/Rescue has been led by just 13 Fire Chiefs throughout our history. Today, only three of those chiefs are still living: retired Chief Jim Sutherland, retired Chief Miford Jordan, and current Fire Chief Russ Collier. Their combined leadership represents decades of service, commitment, and dedication to the men and women of Montgomery Fire/Rescue and the citizens we proudly serve.

Thank you, Chief Sutherland, for your years of leadership and for taking the time to visit with our personnel. We were honored to have you back in the firehouse.

🚒 Station 3 Training Day 🚒

Crews at Station 3 spent the day sharpening both basic firefighter skills and training on a flying standpipe, building confidence and readiness for the next alarm.

You can see how a roof ladder can be tied into the platform to provide easier access when operating around parapet walls.

Train hard. Stay ready. Serve Montgomery.
