Our first meeting for the newly reopened SSA was a success! We were able to gather a lot of helpful information that will guide us through the near future. I would like to thank all of the people who were able to attend. You guys were a great help and I am going to use every bit of the input in the upcoming Fall semester. -Austin

Howdy, y'all! As a preface to the upcoming meeting and a reminder to newcomers and people curious about us, I'd like to make a post about why many of us think that this group is important and needed. Earlier this week, the eighth secular Bangladeshi blogger this year was hacked to death in the streets of Dhaka. It is currently illegal in several countries to disbelieve in the state religion. Across the United States, families and relationships are unnecessarily strained and broken and Constitutional rights are denied to people due to "sincerely held religious beliefs." In short, irrational religious faith leads to an irrationally organized and less healthy world. Here at SSA, we'd like to kindly point this out to people and show them the harmful nonsense of what many suppose to be the greatest source of good in the world. We think that a more secular world would be a more rational and less fearful place. In the words of the Roman poet Lucretius:

"For just as children tremble and fear all
In the viewless dark, so even we at times
Dread in the light so many things that be
No whit more fearsome than what children feign,
Shuddering, will be upon them in the dark.
This terror, then, this darkness of the mind,
Not sunrise with its flaring spokes of light,
Nor glittering arrows of morning sun disperse,
But only nature's aspect and her law."

Hello, fellow freethinkers! Our first MEETING will be THIS THURSDAY 4/28/16 held in 202 CLEMENT HALL from 3:30 P.M-4:30 P.M. If you can not stay the whole time it is perfectly fine, but make sure you stay long enough to give us your contact info. Please bring your friends whether they be any form of freethinker (even deists) in order to show support of the club so we can continue to grow and have fun. Hope to see you guys there!
