Montgomery EMA helping with communications at the 9-1-1 Memorial Coalition Bike Ride (9/11/26)
Members volunteered many hours preparing and helping with Amateur Radio, County Wide Radios, Traffic Control, Drone support and so much more. We were in constant contact with the lead vehicles and our ending vehicle to keep track of where and when the parade of bikes would be at all times. It takes a lot of time and manpower, but it's worth it knowing that did our best to keep everyone safe.

A big Thank You to the Montgomery Fire Company for hosting PPL's Live Lines Electrical Safety training tonight at the carnival grounds. It was an excellent presentation teaching first responders and the community about the do's and don'ts of electricity.

It has been an extremely busy week for your EMA volunteers. When storm watches or warnings occur, we usually have a few members on standby monitoring the radars, streams and so much more. A lot of time is spent updating Facebook and our website as well and we are certainly proud to do the best we can to keep our community safe. Tuesday was a busy night with the first round of storms in our area.

On Wednesday, it was no exception. At 11:30pm, a crew was dispatched to Clinton County for possible water rescues near Lock Haven and Mill Hall. After several hours, we were released, but not before heading to a call in South Williamsport. Thankfully that resulted in a recall, but since the rainfall was beginning to be heavy in Montgomery, we returned and prepared in case we need to take action in town. We did have several volunteers monitoring streams at W Houston Ave and Snaurytown and the water did come up quickly, but not enough to cause any property damage. At 4:30am, the creek continued to come down and the incoming rain was dissipating so it was safe to go home.

It goes to show, you always need to be weather aware when warnings are issued. Conditions can change very quickly and it's important to always stay alert.

Our hearts go out to those in Clinton County that received damage from their storm. It's important to remember, you never know when that could be us.

RIVER UPDATE:
At 6pm (9/3), It appears the river at Montgomery is near crest at 11.5ft. 8pm reading 11.8ft.
This one was difficult to predict because some places saw 6 inches of rain, while others saw less than 2 inches.
Please continue to monitor though if you are a camper or live close to a stream or river as heavy storms tonight could cause the streams and river to go up.

The National Weather Service has issued a SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WATCH for all of Lycoming County including Montgomery until 12 midnight Friday (9/4)
Storms are once again starting to build in western Pennsylvania and heading east towards Lycoming County.
Heavy rain, wind gusts up to 60mph and hail are possible.

RIVER UPDATE:
As of 12pm (9/3), the river is at 10ft & Rising.
The latest projections from the National Weather Service are that the river will crest around 16.6ft at 2am (Friday 9/3).
Of course, all of that could change depending on if any storms or heavy rain occur today.
It takes 20ft to be at flood stage.
As always, stay weather aware because conditions could change if we get more rain.

The National Weather Service has kept a FLOOD WATCH active for Lycoming County including Montgomery until 12am Fri (9/4)
There is a possibility for severe thunderstorms and heavy rain once again throughout Thursday, and with the recent heavy rains, the new rain may cause the streams to rise once again.

It is extremely important to be weather aware and be ready in case the streams were to rise out of their banks.

As of 5am Thursday (9/3), the stream behind the borough hall near Houston Ave has receded to below the 2ft mark. We had crews out all night monitoring the streams and it will continue to lower throughout the morning.

It is important to note that there is a Flood Watch in effect for Lycoming County until 12am Thursday night as another round of storms could push through our area bringing the streams back up.
Stay Weather Aware and be ready in case you need to get out of your home.

The national weather service has issued a flash flood warning for southern Lycoming County including Montgomery until 3:30 a.m.

The EMA has crews out watching the streams, however it's best to prepare to take action if needed.

The National Weather Service has issued a SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WATCH for all of Lycoming County including Montgomery from 5pm Wednesday (9/2) to 12 Midnight.
Storms are starting to pop up in western Pennsylvania and moving towards the central PA. Just like last night, heavy downpours, wind gusts up to 60mph, and hail is possible. Stay Weather Aware tonight if you are going to be out.
