Visitors now have even more room to explore, as today marked the grand opening of the 4.4-mile extension of the Fort Morgan Trail at Gulf State Park. The 10-foot-wide trail is paved and gives guests more opportunities to experience the coast on foot or by bicycle. It also includes bridges that protect important coastal wetlands, and a new bathhouse for trail users.

"Extending (the trail) is a win for residents and visitors alike," said State Senator Chris Elliott. "Trails like this draw tourists to our coast, support local businesses, and give our families a safe, beautiful place to be outside together."

Park staff from Joe Wheeler State Park recently attended the Lauderdale County Careers for a Greener Tomorrow fair, where they met countless motivated students interested in conservation and outdoor careers. Connecting with future leaders who are passionate about protecting Alabama’s natural spaces was truly inspiring!
