Happy Father's Day to the dads who help keep our office running and bring so much heart to what we do!

These four are part of what makes our team feel like family, and today we're celebrating the role they cherish: being Dad. Whether they're coaching from the sideline, getting the big hugs at the end of a long day, or just showing up the way good dads do, we're proud to work alongside them.

To these four and to dads everywhere, including all the fathers and father figures in the 911 community who answer the call at home and at work, thank you for everything you do. đź’™

To our 911 family, near and far, this one's for you. 🎧

After three years of work across the national 911 community, the updated training guidelines for public safety telecommunicators are now available. It's the first refresh since 2016, and it gives agencies a modern baseline to build their training around, covering everything from new technology to crisis calls to the health and wellness of the people behind the headset.

Our office is proud to have been part of it. Our former Executive Director, Leah Missildine, represented Alabama and National Association of State 911 Administrators (NASNA) on the national working group that shaped it.

To every telecommunicator who answers the call, in our state and across the country, thank you. This work is for you and the communities you serve. đź’™

June is National Safety Month, a reminder that staying safe starts long before an emergency happens. Whether it's at home, on the road, at work, or taking care of our mental health, small actions can make a big difference.

And when emergencies do happen, 9-1-1 professionals are there, ready to answer the call. Thank you to the telecommunicators and emergency communications professionals who help keep our communities safe every day. We appreciate all you do.

MYTH: You should hang up if you accidentally call 911.

FACT: Stay on the line and let the telecommunicator know it was accidental.

Accidental 911 calls happen, but hanging up can create confusion and may result in a callback or dispatch to confirm your safety.

If you call 911 by mistake, the best thing you can do is stay on the line and clearly communicate that there is no emergency.

Effective today, we are excited to announce Anderson Brooms’ promotion to Director of Operations.

Over the last six years with our organization, Anderson has been a steady presence and a valuable part of our team. He has built strong relationships across the state, worked alongside our Emergency Communications Districts and PSAPs, and played an important role in advancing Alabama 911 as the GIS Program Manager.

Congratulations, Anderson, on this well-deserved promotion. We are excited for this next chapter and hope you'll join us in congratulating him on his new role as Director of Operations.

Below are a few words from Anderson as he reflects on this opportunity and the road ahead.

____________________________________________________________________

I am truly honored and excited to step into the role of Director of Operations for the Alabama 911 Board. Over the past six years, I have had the privilege of working alongside dedicated public safety professionals, emergency communications leaders, and frontline public safety telecommunicators across the state to advance Alabama's NG911 initiatives. Their commitment to serving Alabama's citizens has been both inspiring and rewarding to witness. I am grateful for the trust and confidence placed in me and for the opportunity to continue working alongside our dedicated staff who help make Alabama's 911 system successful. I remain committed to supporting our staff, serving Alabama's 911 community, and helping ensure that our citizens and first responders can rely on a resilient, effective, and forward-looking 911 system for years to come. - Anderson
