Our thoughts and prayers are with the Ackley family and the Blandford Fire Department with the loss of Deputy Chief Ackley.

With deep sadness we announce the passing of Deputy Fire Chief Thomas Ackley. Ackley served the town of Blandford for over 6 decades on the fire department. In addition of highway superintendent, Hilltown community ambulance and member of select board. His love and dedication to the town of Blandford will always be unmatched. His legacy will forever be etched in the history of the Hilltowns communities.

Please keep his family in your thoughts and prayers. Services and arrangements will be posted as information becomes available.

Montgomery Fire Department has changed the brush burning season. As of today, burning is only be allowed on weekends and rainy days. Please remember to call the fire station and leave a message. The answering machine will have any updates as well to the burn season.

The Montgomery Fire Department has been awarded a grant through the FY2026 Firefighter Safety Equipment Grant Program from the Massachusetts Executive Office of Public Safety and Security and the Department of Fire Services.

This funding will be used to purchase portable radios to help keep the cost down to the town residents in the upcoming years for much needed radio equipment upgrades.

We appreciate the continued support from the Commonwealth.

This increases the outdoor fire risk at the very time when more people are spending more time outdoors, and it limits water for firefighting drawn from lakes, ponds, and streams.
