On this day in 1777, the Second Continental Congress passed a resolution that declared the creation and design of the U.S. flag. The remembrance was a local or state holiday until June 1916, when President Woodrow Wilson declared Flag Day a national event through a presidential proclamation. 🇺🇸

The Alabama Department of Veterans Affairs is proud to announce the creation of its first Women Veterans Coordinator position and the appointment of Andrea Searor to the role. A retired U.S. Air Force leader with 26 years of service, Searor will help connect Alabama’s women veterans with the resources, benefits and support they have earned.

The position comes at a critical time, as more than 43,000 women veterans call Alabama home, yet fewer than half are enrolled in VA healthcare. As Alabama prepares to recognize Women Veterans Day on June 12, ADVA remains committed to ensuring women veterans across the state feel supported, empowered and connected to the services they need to thrive. 🇺🇸
