Field trip reminder for this upcoming weekend. Saturday, April 11, 2026 the Montgomery Gem and Mineral Society will travel to Sylacauga, Alabama for the Magic of Marble festival. We will meet at the sculptor’s park where will meet and greet the artists as they carve. We will then walk across the street to the BB Comer Library to tour the collection of marble sculptures and gift shop. Then we will drive to the Quarry overlook park where we can collect a few specimens. We plan on meeting there around 10 am. Any questions, please reach out to club president Chris Rutherford.
As an added bonus, those who bought the Roadside Geology of Alabama book at our gem show, you will find a detailed itinerary of the route to Sylacauga. There’s some nice side trip excursions and a lot of details about Rockford and Coosa County.
