Congratulations to Chairman Hal Nash who was officially confirmed Thursday to the Alabama Board of Pardons & Paroles. Governor Kay Ivey appointed Hal Nash as Board Chairman in July 2025.

“I’m grateful to Governor Kay Ivey for her confidence in me and look forward to continuing to fulfill my duties to the people of Alabama,” Chairman Nash said. “As a law enforcement officer for more than three decades, I understand the importance of our role to serve and protect the people of Alabama. We will be detailed, diligent and strive to ensure a stronger, safer state through my work with fellow board members and our partnership with the Bureau and its officers in the field. Most importantly, our Board will be fair -- to the victims, to the applicants and to all the families and stakeholders. ”

Before his appointment to the Board, Chairman Nash most recently served as Chief Corrections Deputy with the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office. He previously served with the DeKalb County Sheriff's Office, among other law enforcement agencies. The governor sought to identify a tough-on-crime, fair and pro-law enforcement candidate with leadership experience from the list of nominees. Nash has also held leadership positions in civic organizations, serving as international vice president of the Jaycees, and on various public boards, including as the Chairman of the Chattanooga/Hamilton County Air Pollution Control Board and the Jackson County Hospital Authority.

Alabama Bureau of Pardons and Paroles Director Cam Ward appointed Darryl Littleton as Deputy Director for Administration & Law Enforcement Services, effective Jan. 16.

Littleton brings more than 28 years of public service in law enforcement, protective services and government operations to the role, including more than four years on the Alabama Board of Pardons and Paroles. He was appointed to the Board by Governor Ivey in July 2021, where he developed a reputation as a thoughtful leader and problem solver with a strong understanding of the Bureau’s mission and operations.

During his service on the Board, Littleton worked closely with Bureau staff to better understand the agency’s operations and identify opportunities to improve efficiency. In 2022, he led efforts to modernize the parole file review process, including the development of structured decision-making tools and expanded remote access to parole data for Board members. Those changes reduced errors and supported the use of real-time technology during parole hearings.

Littleton’s law enforcement career includes 24 years with the Alabama State Troopers, where he served as both a trooper and a supervisor. His experience also includes service as an APOST-certified law enforcement officer, traffic homicide investigator, DUI enforcement specialist and legislative affairs liaison. He has extensive background in protective services and retired from state service in 2020.

Congratulations to Mark R. Hall, who retired after five years of service as the Bureau's Deputy Director for Administration & Law Enforcement Services. Director Ward commends Hall for his decades of law enforcement leadership and operations experience that helped ensure critical operations at the Bureau.

He helped guide the Bureau through significant progress and focused on responsible budget management, officer safety enhancements and pursuit of policy that recognized Alabama parole officers as state law enforcement officers. Hall’s service left a lasting impact on the Bureau’s operations and its commitment to public safety.

I am proud to announce Parole Board member Darryl Littleton as his replacement. Darryl’s service in law enforcement and with the Parole Board makes him uniquely qualified for this position. While I know the Board will miss him, he will be a huge asset to the Bureau and look forward to his service.

Our PREP participants had a special moment last week. This cohort hosted “Thanksgiving with Dad,” giving fathers a chance to sit down with their kids and share a holiday meal.

Family reunification is a big part of PREP, and events like this help fathers reconnect and prepare for life back home. We’re thankful for the families who made the day meaningful.

The Jasper DRC Lite Program proudly hosted its 3rd Graduation Ceremony on November 19, 2025. The ceremony began with opening remarks from Senior Officer/Administrator Johnathan Rattliffe, followed by Officer Darryl Gurganus, who welcomed all of our valued community partners and stakeholders.

Social Services Caseworker Ms. Londonise Lockett then introduced the two graduates who shared testimonials. Regina Powers and Clayton Morrow offered powerful and heartfelt reflections on their personal journeys and the meaningful impact the program has had on their lives. Their words provided encouragement and inspiration to current participants and guests.

Officer Randi Capps introduced our keynote speaker, Judge Gregory Williams, who delivered a motivating and uplifting message focused on perseverance, accountability, and continued growth.

After Judge Williams’ address, all 10 participants in attendance were awarded their Certificates of Completion for the DRC Program, recognizing their dedication and hard work throughout the process.

Upon the conclusion of the certificate presentations, District Manager John Humber addressed the graduates and guests, offering supportive and encouraging remarks. He then introduced Division Director Chris Causey, who expressed appreciation for staff efforts and left the participants with a meaningful poem and additional words of encouragement.

This year’s ceremony was graciously hosted by the Kingdom Impact Church of God, who provided outstanding support and ensured that all of our needs were met. These great partners -- especially Pastor Zach Beard and his wife -- played a key role in the success of the event.

A total of 11 participants completed the program, with 10 present for the ceremony. The turnout was excellent, reflecting the strong community support behind the Jasper DRC Lite Program. We remain proud of our graduates and look forward to continued growth and service within our community.
