The journey to college looks a little different for everyone, and we’re here to make sure it starts on the right foot!

This week kicked off our first in-person Summer College Prep session at Hoover campus. Designed specifically for students new to the college scene, it was all about sharpening those study skills and building a foundation for success.

A massive shoutout to the representatives from JSCC, ADRS Lakeshore, and our amazing Vocational Rehab Service (VRS) professionals who stepped up to share vital resources and guide these students toward their next big steps.

The transition to college can feel overwhelming, but with the right tools and community support, these students are ready to crush it!

The first of two in-person Summer College Prep sessions began this week at Jefferson State Hoover campus. The program focused on students who were new to college and needed to improve their study skills. On Wednesday, June 10, the students enjoyed a visit from Accessing Potential Through Assistive Technology. Throughout the week, representatives of JSCC, Lakeshore, and other VRS professionals provided information to help students prepare for the next steps.

Want to make a real, lasting difference in the lives of children with special healthcare needs?

The Alabama Department of Rehabilitation Services (ADRS) is looking for a passionate, full-time Registered Dietitian Nutritionist to join our Children’s Rehabilitation Service (CRS) team!

In this role, you won’t just be managing diets—you’ll be a vital part of an interdisciplinary medical and evaluation team providing community-based care to amazing children and young adults (birth to age 21) across the Montgomery/Opelika district.

This is a Permanent, Full-Time position based in the Montgomery/Opelika district office. Personal vehicle travel required (fully reimbursed at the federal mileage rate!) with occasional overnight stays.

The first session of the new Prep Zone program took place this week on the campus of UAB - The University of Alabama at Birmingham from June 2-5. Prep Zone is a college prep program for students who are blind or have low vision. Throughout the week, the students participated in team-building activities, learned about assistive technology, explored career options, gained cooking and independent living skills, and learned lessons on job readiness. Special thanks to the UAB staff for making our students feel welcome and teaching them about everything the school has to offer! The students received great information from UAB Disability Support Services, UAB Libraries, UAB College of Arts & Sciences, UAB Students, and others.
