A couple of months ago, we said goodbye to one of the most dedicated representatives of the Alabama Governor's Committee on Employment of People with Disabilities. Roy Roberts spent many years making sure that the Talladega and Anniston Governor's Committees' local awards events were a success. Even as he planned retirement, he agreed to serve as President of the Association of Local Governor's Committees. Roy's working title was Business Relations Consultant, but he had many more titles-advocate, encourager and friend, just to name a few.

A horrific auto accident in 2012 left Jacy paralyzed from the chest down. Doctors said he would never walk again. Jacy proved them wrong. With little to no feeling in his legs, Jacy taught himself how to walk again. Coaching is in his blood, and you might see him walking the sidelines at Baker in Mobile when his defense is on the field.
Winners never quit.

Ben Brewbaker has established himself as a top-notch salesman and representative for the family's auto dealership. Born with Spina Bifida, Ben has taken his dynamic personality and knowledge of automobiles to the airwaves, as he is featured in TV commercials. He represents the disability community as a productive, life-enjoying citizen who can and will succeed in the world of employment! Meet the 2020 Small Business Employee of the Year!

We congratulate Judge Scott W. Hassell, Probate Judge in Etowah County, as the 2020 Public Service Award winner. Judge Hassell takes a personal interest in students with disabilities and has become a trusted mentor. He also promotes education, care and rehabilitation of prisoners with mental health and substance abuse problems, establishing the first and only Therapeutic Based Substance Abuse Program inside a county jail in the State of Alabama.

Born with a vision impairment, but determined to succeed, Alie B is an activist for people with disabilities, and well-deserving of this award. Congratulations, Alie!

Meet Reagan Green, the 2020 Youth Leadership Award winner! Reagan attends Birmingham Southern College, maintaining a 3.8 and above GPA while pursuing a double major in Political Science and Spanish. As a person with a vision impairment, Reagan partners with individuals and companies to bring awareness of disabilities. After college, she plans to attend graduate school and possibly law school.
