Heart of Alabama Food Bank

Heart of Alabama Food Bank The Heart of Alabama Food Bank (HAFB), formally the Montgomery Area Food Bank, was established in 1986.

Since 1986, the Heart of Alabama Food Bank has partnered with local agencies, volunteers, and supporters to provide food and dignity - feeding hope and fighting hunger across 35 counties in Central Alabama. The organization became a certified affiliate of Feeding America in 1989 and works with our state association, Feeding Alabama. The mission of HAFB is to source, acquire, and distribute nutritious food to those experiencing hunger and food insecurity throughout our region so that families, seniors, and children can thrive. Last year alone, HAFB distributed over 30 million pounds of food, or over 25 million meals, to the 35 counties served and is on track to distribute even more in the coming years. HAFB provides food to our service area by working with over 200 partner agencies that serve people through various programs. More information on how to get involved in the fight against hunger, visit www.hafb.org!

Our friends at WSFA-TV stopped by the Heart of Alabama Food Bank today to talk about a cost that keeps our mission moving: diesel. 🚛

Simon Schuessler with WSFA is taking a closer look at how rising diesel prices are affecting HAFB operations and what those added costs mean when you’re moving food across Alabama every day.

For us, fuel isn’t just a line in the budget. It keeps our trucks on the road, food moving, and our partner agencies stocked for the neighbors they serve.

📺Tune in to WSFA at 4 and 6 p.m. tonight, 9/16, to hear more about the impact and how HAFB is working to keep hope on the road. 🍎

This National Truck Driver Appreciation Week, we're celebrating the drivers who help keep food moving. 🚛❤️

Every mile they drive helps move food from the Heart of Alabama Food Bank to the communities and neighbors who need it most. Here are quotes from two of them: Jeffrey Mims and Squire Davis!

During Hunger Action Month, we're reminded that fighting hunger takes all of us playing our part. Today, we're especially grateful for the drivers who keep our mission moving. Thank you for everything you do. Way to Play Your Part and feed hope by fighting hunger.

Today marks the beginning of Hispanic Heritage Month, a time to celebrate the rich cultures, traditions, histories, and contributions of Hispanic and Latino communities. ❤️

As we celebrate, we also recognize the challenges facing our neighbors. In the communities served by the Heart of Alabama Food Bank, Latino food insecurity is over 22%.

During Hunger Action Month, we're reminded that fighting hunger means making sure every neighbor has access to the food they need, regardless of their background.

This month, celebrate community, learn something new, and find your part in the fight against hunger. Play Your Part. Feeding Hope by Fighting Hunger.

Today, we were honored to receive a generous donation from the Woodforest National Bank Charitable Foundation in support of our Senior Supplement Program. ❤️

The Senior Supplement Program provides monthly food boxes to low-income seniors, helping ensure they have access to nutritious foods that support their health and well-being. Each box includes essential foods selected to provide important nutrients, including fresh produce and high-protein.

During Hunger Action Month, this is what it means to Play Your Part. Community support like this helps put nutritious food on seniors' tables in our communities and reminds us that everyone has a role in the fight against hunger.

Thank you to the Woodforest Bank Charitable Foundation for helping us continue Feeding Hope by Fighting Hunger. ❤️

September 14 is Food is Medicine Day, a reminder that access to nutritious food can play an important role in better health. ❤️

Our Food as Medicine program connects healthcare providers with nutritious food support for patients experiencing food insecurity. Through partnerships with medical providers, eligible patients can receive food deliveries designed to support their health and well-being.

This Hunger Action Month, we’re highlighting the many ways we can play our part in fighting hunger, because addressing hunger means addressing more than an empty plate. It means helping our neighbors have the food they need to live healthier lives.

Today, remembrance took the form of service. 🇺🇸

We are deeply grateful to the Alabama Department of Veterans Affairs team who chose to honor September 11th by serving alongside us at the Heart of Alabama Food Bank. It was a meaningful way to remember, give back, and care for our neighbors.

Thank you for spending this day in service to others. ❤️🤍💙

We remember.

Today, we remember September 11, and the lives forever changed that day. We honor those we lost, the heroes who served, and the countless people who came together to help one another in the days that followed.

In moments of uncertainty, we saw something powerful: neighbors caring for neighbors. That spirit of service still matters today.

During Hunger Action Month, we’re reminded that each of us has a part to play in caring for our communities. Whether you give, volunteer, serve, speak up, or show up for a neighbor, your actions can make a difference.

Today, we remember. Today, we serve. Today, we Play Your Part. Feeding Hope by Fighting Hunger.❤️

SNAP isn't just about putting food on the table. It's about supporting Alabama families.

In Alabama, about 740,000 Alabamians, or 1 in 7 people, rely on SNAP for basic nutrition. 86% of SNAP benefits go to households with children, seniors, or people with disabilities. SNAP helps families put food on the table while helping stretch limited household budgets. Food banks and SNAP serve different but complementary roles in the fight against hunger.

For families facing difficult financial decisions, SNAP can provide critical support and help keep nutritious food within reach.

This Hunger Action Month, let's learn more about the resources that help our neighbors thrive. Let's make sure our neighbors know about the resources available to them. Visit https://hafb.org/snap/ to learn more about SNAP in Alabama.

Nearly 1 in 4 children in Alabama face hunger.

Across the 35 counties served by the Heart of Alabama Food Bank, over 87,000 children are food insecure, with a child food insecurity rate of over 25%.

In classrooms, neighborhoods, playgrounds, and communities across our state, children are facing uncertainty about where their next meal will come from. Hunger can affect a child's ability to learn, grow, and thrive. That's why fighting child hunger matters all year long.

This Hunger Action Month, help us make sure hunger doesn't stand between a child and their potential. Take action for Alabama's children. Visit https://hafb.org/get-involved/ to get involved today!
