The Alabama Department of Mental Health serves more than 200,000 Alabama citizens with mental illnesses, intellectual disabilities and/or substance use disorders each year through a network of state facilities and contract community providers. The department also strives to create awareness and educate the public about mental health issues in order to overcome stigmas often faced by people with mental illnesses, intellectual disabilities and/or substance use disorders.
