WEDNESDAY, HE HAS TO OPEN HIS BOOKS.
July 15, the Q2 FEC reports come due. Let's concede the obvious up front: he's going to post a big number. He always does. National Democrats put him on their Frontline list, and Frontline members don't have money problems.
So don't watch the headline number. Watch what it's made of.
Here's the record as it stands, from his own FEC filings this cycle:
$827,549 raised
$576,373 from political committees — PACs
$237,171 from actual human beings
For every $1 a person gave him, $2.43 came from Washington.
Meanwhile, in the district he wants to represent: Mizell Memorial Hospital in Opp — 75 years old, 200+ employees, the largest employer in its town — filed Chapter 11 on April 29. Roughly half of Alabama's rural hospitals are rated at immediate risk of closing.
So name the bill. Not a roundtable. Not a ribbon. Name the bill he wrote to fix the reimbursement structure closing hospitals across South Alabama. If there is one, we'll print it here in full, with our compliments.
We said we'd publish exactly what Wednesday's filing shows — the whole composition, favorable or not. We will.
August 11 is winner-take-all. Thirty days. Nobody gets persuaded in an August special; somebody just shows up.
