The Montevallo Police Department, in partnership with Impact Montevallo, remains committed to providing our School Resource Officers (SROs) with the highest level of training and professional development. Attendance at the annual conference hosted by The Alabama Association of School Resource Officers (TAASRO) is a priority each year, offering valuable opportunities to learn from leading experts, collaborate with fellow SROs from across Alabama, and strengthen expertise in critical areas such as school safety, student engagement, and mental health support.

By investing in continuing education, we ensure our officers remain equipped with the latest tools, strategies, and best practices to effectively serve, support, and protect the students, faculty, and families of our community. Strong partnerships and ongoing professional development help foster a safer, more supportive learning environment for all.

Shelby County Schools recently had a record number of School Resource Officers and other leaders attend the 27th Annual Alabama Association of School Resource Officers Conference, held June 1-5 in Orange Beach. Conference attendees from SCS included school resource officers, school administrators, a counselor, a special education program specialist and Student Services staff. The Montevallo Police Department is excited to announce that we have received federal funding through the U.S. Department of Justice’s Patrick Leahy Bulletproof Vest Partnership (BVP) Program.

This funding will help us purchase updated ballistic vests that meet the current National Institute of Justice (NIJ) standards, ensuring that our officers have access to modern, life-saving protective equipment as they serve our community.

Officer safety remains our top priority, and this investment enhances our readiness and commitment to the citizens of Montevallo.

We would like to express our sincere gratitude to our equipment partner, North America Fire Equipment Company (NAFECO), for their ongoing support.
