The Presidio of Monterey hosts a stop on every Armed Services Blood Bank Center - Pacific Northwest West Coast Blood Drive at the Price Fitness Center. While turnout to provide blood for warfighters is typically good, Defense Language Institute Foreign Language Center service members went above and beyond this month with 398 donations over two days. This was one of the highest turnouts in the history of the blood drive.

Presidio of Monterey School Liaison officer Blanca Felix and Naval Support Activity Monterey SLO John McKenzie held the latest School Transition Response Team meeting at the Monterey Child Development Center this week. The team, made up of military and Monterey Peninsula Unified School District leaders, celebrated the success of Month of the Military Child events, planned the expansion of the Purple Star school designation program and workshopped ways to increase military spouse employment opportunities.

The day included a tour of the nearby Monte Vista TK-8 School, where principal Joe Ashby led a tour of the campus and informed attendees about how the school is making military children feel welcome. Monte Vista uses the Anchored4Life peer-to-peer support program to ensure military children have the help they need to face the challenges of military life.

Felix and McKenzie stressed the importance of preparing for school transfer before the upcoming PCS season and encouraged families with any questions to reach out early for a smooth school transition.
