Early September Rain: Frontal Boundary Crossing Northern California 🌧️☔

An unseasonably early frontal boundary is approaching Northern California today, bringing periods of light rain to the Bay Area and North Bay!

Rainfall Totals Over the Past 24 Hours:

North Bay Coastal Ranges: The highest totals so far, picking up between 0.25" and 0.50" of rainfall.

Sonoma & Marin Valleys: Lighter amounts, generally under 0.15".

South of the Golden Gate: As the front moves south, rainfall will taper off significantly, with most areas expecting totals generally less than 0.05".

KMUX Radar Update: A band of light rain approaching the coastline is expected to produce less than a 0.10" of rainfall as it pushes inland away from the higher elevations of the coastal ranges over the next couple of hours. Slow down and expect some slick roads.

📡530 AM radar check in: Showers have moved into the North Bay with anywhere from a few hundredths of an inch across the lower elevations and up to 0.25" across the coastal mountains reported this morning.

Unseasonably Cool Today with Inland Sun and North Bay High Clouds 🌫️☀️

Good morning, Bay Area and Central Coast! Welcome to September! We are starting the month with a distinctly fall-like pattern as a strong upper-level trough sits just off the Northern California and Pacific Northwest coasts.

What to expect today:

Clouds Clearing Inland: Low marine stratus will mix out over the next few hours, giving way to mostly sunny skies across interior valleys this afternoon.

Lingering High Clouds: A stream of wispy high clouds will continue to drift across the North Bay, filtering sunshine at times.

Well Below Average Temperatures: That offshore trough is keeping a cool airmass locked in place. Afternoon highs will remain unseasonably chilly—running up to 20 degrees Fahrenheit below normal for early September across interior spots! Expect highs struggling to get out of the 60s and 70s.

Morning satellite loop shows coastal stratus burning back to the coast by early afternoon, yielding mostly sunny skies inland. Smoke from the Timber and Plaskett fires aloft will continue drifting over Monterey & San Benito counties into the Central Valley.
