Montegut Fire Department is celebrating 79 years of serving the community today!
June 11th, 1947 is the day the department was officially established.
Long before our official establishment day, community members recognized the importance of a fire department for our growing community and came together to establish this organization.
Even though our community dynamics have changed over the years, we remain driven by our mission statement:
Montegut Fire Department is proud to serve our community by protecting life and property through the prevention and mitigation of fires and other emergencies. Our priority will always be the safety and protection of our community.
MVFD is blessed to have volunteers, staff, a Board of Commissioners, neighboring fire departments, and a community who continues to support us.
We need your help to make it to our 80th year and beyond. Our millage tax renewal is on the June 27th election ballot.
Over the years we’ve worked towards a better fire insurance rating, increased staffing, and purchased, maintained, and replaced equipment to continue necessary operations. We continue to serve an area of 540 square miles with a population of 3,176 (plus seasonal campers) providing fire, rescue, and Advanced EMS services. Our fire district covers a portion of Terrebonne Parish & Lafourche Parish. Our department staffing is diverse, with career staff, part-time personnel and volunteer members. We continue to be part of the Strike Team with Bourg & Little Caillou Fire Departments.
Our department has struggles like many of you. Storm damage, insurance price increases, & rising cost of expenses all take their toll. Our millage renewal is crucial in keeping our department in operation and providing for the protection of the community.
Please contact us if you need a smoke detector, are interested in becoming a volunteer, or would like to learn more about the operations of the department. Visits are welcome too!
Thank you for helping MVFD to achieve this milestone, and we look forward to providing continued services to our beloved bayou community.
