🌟 Rotary Meeting Highlights - July 9, 2025 🌟

We had a fantastic start to the 2025-2026 Service Year with our first Rotary meeting, led by President Sarkis Sandukhtyan. We were honored to welcome our new District Governor, Gilda Riazi Moshir, who shared inspiring ideas for this year’s expansion of goals under the theme “United for Good.”

Some key areas of initiative this year fall under “Rotary Means Business,” reviving vocational service through a business plan competition for youth, which aims to empower young entrepreneurs. Additionally, we will host networking events to connect Rotarians with non-Rotarian community business owners. Rotary is committed to raising awareness about our professional organization among non-member businesses.

A special congratulations to Rotarian John Loussararian, who was recognized as the CATALYST: ‘One Who Sparks Lasting Impact 2025 - 2026’ for the Rotary Club of Montebello. Thank you, John, for being a driving force for progress!

Together, let’s make a positive impact! Rotarians are looking forward to an exciting year ‘United for Good’!

Fred Salas, the program speaker for our Wednesday, January 9, 2025, meeting at Quiet Cannon, told us his gut wrenching story about the farewell he and his said to their beloved son, and the decisions they made in the two days after the attack that would ultimately impact the lives of five other people. On February 1, 2018, Jack Salas, only 10 years-old, suffered a severe asthma attack. Fred and Jessica decided to donate several of Jack’s organs. Jack's organs helped to save three other children, and two adults.

In 2019 Fred and Jessica founded the Live Like Jack Foundation https://www.livelikejackfoundation.org/ to raise awareness of the importance of organ donation. They want to dispel myths about organ donation, especially that no one is too old to be a donor, and that there is no cost burden to organ donation.

Becoming a donor is simple and urgently needed: over 100,000 people are waiting for an organ; 18 die every day. A single donor can potentially impact 8 individuals and their families.

If you aren’t already a donor, you can sign up at register.donatelifecalifornia.org/register/onelegacy Southern California’s Organ Procurement Organization (OPO), which is part of a nationwide network of OPOs. If you’re renewing your driver’s license, be sure to check “Yes” that you’re willing to become an organ donor. Also, be sure to let your loved ones know that you are an organ donor.
