One year ago, my life changed forever.
What started as an ordinary Sunday morning quickly became the fight of my life. The fear, uncertainty, pain, and recovery tested me in ways I never imagined—but through it all, I was never alone.
I’m incredibly grateful to the doctors and nurses who performed my open-heart surgery at Cedars-Sinai and cared for me every step of the way. Your skill, compassion, and dedication gave me a second chance at life.
Thank you to the Montebello Fire Department Montebello Fire Department and ambulance team for your quick response and for getting me safely to Cedars-Sinai when every second mattered.
To my family and friends—thank you for carrying me through this journey with your love, prayers, encouragement, visits, messages, and unwavering support. A special thank you to Sheryl for organizing the meal train, and to everyone who prepared and delivered meals to my family when we needed it most.
Thank you to everyone who sent warm meals, flowers, cards, and words of encouragement, and to the City Council and City Clerk team for your kindness and support throughout my recovery. Thank you to Sheryl Gioia Bishop for starting the meal train.
This experience changed my life and my perspective. I don’t take a single day for granted. I cherish my family, my friends, and every moment more than I ever did before.
Doctor said about 50% of people with my condition make it to the hospital, and only about 50% make it through surgery. Knowing those odds makes me even more grateful to be here today.
One year later, my heart carries a few more scars, but it also carries even more gratitude.
Thank you to everyone who was part of my journey. I will never forget what you did for me and my family.
Here’s to life, second chances, and making every day count. ❤️
