South Cumberland Community Fund

South Cumberland Community Fund South Cumberland Community Fund cultivates leadership and resources to address pressing needs across Tennessee's South Cumberland Plateau.

South Cumberland Community Fund, established in January 2012 under the auspices of the Community Foundation of Greater Chattanooga, represents the first local philanthropic entity to serve the tri-county area of the South Cumberland Plateau in rural Tennessee. This isolated highland region lies roughly halfway between the metropolitan communities of Nashville and Chattanooga, but is virtually invi

sible to the institutional philanthropy in those cities. To raise the profile of this place and launch a self-help movement, the Fund’s leadership has endorsed the following Vision and Mission:

Vision Statement: The vision of South Cumberland Community Fund is that the Plateau be a place of hope and prosperity for all its residents and communities, inspired by the Fund’s philanthropic and regional leadership.

“Don’t look at anyone that’s in addiction without hope. In The Mosaic Recovery Center’s case, the people we encounter in addiction are always someone’s husband, brother, uncle, or son and they all have the ability to turn their life around.”

Check out our newest blog post sharing the incredible work that Mosaic does as well as their relationship with the SCCFat this link: https://www.southcumberlandcommunityfund.org/post/partner-spotlight-mosaic-recovery-center.

🚨New blog alert!🚨
“"Don't give me the credit." For a man who has helped bring vital healthcare to an underserved community, Dr. Thomas Phelps is remarkably focused on highlighting everyone but himself. His story, and the story of the South Cumberland Community Clinic, isn't about one man. It's about what an entire community can achieve together.” Go check out our blog written by Americorp member Tess Foster for our very first grant highlight of the year!

The Love Where You Live Survey is a region-wide effort to listen to residents, learn from their lived experience, and invest in what matters most across the South Cumberland region. It is grounded in a simple belief: the people who live here know their communities best, and lasting change starts by listening to their voices. ⁣

Through this initiative, the South Cumberland Community Fund is inviting community members to help shape priorities, guide investments, and strengthen the places they call home.

On this New Year's Eve, all of us at South Cumberland Community Fund are reflecting on the many wonderful accomplishments that 2025 has brought. SCCF has organized community concerts to showcase the Plateau's musicians, nonprofit gatherings to strengthen connections and collaborations, community surveys to collect and share data on area needs, conversations on rural health and transportation, the inaugural housing summit, grants celebrations to recognize the work of over 25 organizations who we have partnered with this year, and much more.

We are grateful for the opportunity to serve our community on the South Cumberland Plateau, and we are so thankful to the donors, volunteers, partner organizations, and others who help us move closer toward our mission every day. Thank you for your dedication to improving the lives of all those who live, work, and learn in our community. We look forward to the exciting projects, collaborations, and events that 2026 will bring, and we hope we can count on you to join us.

Happy New Year,
The SCCF Team
