September is National Preparedness Month
Disasters can happen without warning—from winter storms and flooding to wildfires and power outages. September is National Preparedness Month, and this year’s theme is ‘Americans Stand Ready’.
With active wildfires in nearby counties and stormy El Niño weather ahead, getting ready now is super important. When families take simple steps to prepare, our firefighters and paramedics can focus on saving lives during big emergencies, and our whole community can recover much faster.
3 simple steps you can take this month:
- Make a Plan: Practice how your family will get out of the house and where you will meet if there’s an emergency and your phones don’t work.
- Build a Kit: Put together enough food, water, and medicine to last everyone (including pets!) in your home for at least 3 days.
- Stay Alert: Sign up for free local emergency alerts at AlertSCC.org.
