I have been a town meeting member representing Precinct 6 for 10 years. I am a Registered Nurse since graduation from Greenfield Community College 15 years ago and I after working most of my career in the Emergency Dept I am currently working at GCC as a nurse educator for the last 8 years. After graduating GCC I continued my education and obtained a Master’s in Nursing. Before all of that I spent
30+ years as an Emergency Medical Technician and Paramedic volunteering and working throughout Franklin Co. Most recently, I have also spent the last year working part time as a public health nurse and contact tracer in Franklin Co. All of this experience tells me what health looks like not just in Franklin County
, but in Montague. It is about time, especially now, that we need a fuller perspective in healthcare on this board. We have a population of 8,614 and 20% of those are over 65. We need to work on getting these folks vaccinated, coordinating transportation, getting to our residents houses. Our senior residents need more outreach and programing that will only increase their health. 6% of our population are brown, black, and Latino people. Throughout this pandemic, this population has been under-reported, and now under-vaccinated. We need to be able to assist this population who need it to get to clinics, get the medical treatment, and have needed resources, like fresh water and clean, safe housing. I have always advocated to increase the hours of the Town Nurse. But COVID is not going to last forever and the light is at the end of the tunnel. We need to get ready for the recovery. And we need to look to the future about what we can learn and how we can move forward. Yes, The Board of Health does more than nursing- they oversee the permitting of food services, septic and Title V, and animal and farm inspections- but these all have the public's health at its core. I am ready to work hard and I respectfully ask for your support.
