Press Release - Flood Concerns: April 16, 12:15 pm.

Leadership members from the City of Whitehall, Department of Public Works, Whitehall Police Department, Montague Police Department, and the White Lake Fire Authority have been monitoring the situation regarding the potential flooding of the White River Basin.

After communicating with emergency management in Hesperia, and evaluating all of the potential hazard areas locally, we have determined that there is no emergent concern at this time. We will keep everyone apprised of the situation moving forward, but as of right now, you can continue with business as usual. There are a few locations in the City of Whitehall, City of Montague, and Fruitland Township where roads are impassable, but the impact will be minor.

In the event of an emergency, please dial 911 immediately and do not attempt to cross any closed roads!

This week, we proudly recognize National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week — a time to celebrate the voices behind the scenes who are truly the *first* first responders in an emergency.

We sincerely appreciate everyone at Muskegon County Central Dispatch as well as our Administrative Assistant who also serves as a dispatcher for Mason-Oceana 911.

Much of their work happens out of sight, but its impact cannot be overstated. Every call answered, every unit dispatched, every life touched — it all begins with them.

Our dispatchers are the calm within the chaos. They are the steady, reassuring voice on the other end of the line during someone’s most difficult moments. With compassion, resilience, and unwavering professionalism, they gather critical information, coordinate lifesaving responses, and support both the public and first responders in the field.

Thank you for your dedication, your strength, and your commitment to serving our community. We appreciate you today and every day. 💛

Today we received this beautiful watercolor painting from Montague resident Ashlyn James. To say it was a pleasant surprise is an understatement!

What a talented young lady and it will hang proudly in our department. 💙

The Department of Public Works will be flushing fire hydrants from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. during the week of April 6. Water customers are advised to not do laundry during the hours hydrants are being flushed. If a temporary discoloration of the water is noticed, run your cold water for about five minutes until it clears.

We would like to wish Deputy Kendall Jeppesen of Muskegon County Sheriff’s Office a huge congratulations on his retirement from the county! Deputy Jeppesen has dedicated his life and career to public service in various departments.

Why the shout out? Deputy Jeppesen has also worked part-time for Montague Police Department for over 20 years. You’ve most likely seen his smiling face at a parade, Cruiz’in, and helping Santa out in the Santa house!

This means he will have more time to work in Montague and serve our beautiful city!

Congrats, OJ! 🚔

In case you missed it 📣📣

Watch RRO’s Mr. Hedrick win (lose?) the pie in the face collection contest! The students raised more than $400 for field trips, supplies, etc. Way to go!

We also thought new SRO Officer Dice needed a little initiation from Sgt. Walicki. 🥧🥧

Today we welcomed Montague 8th graders who are interested in exploring human service fields such as law enforcement!

They had a presentation by our SRO Dice and Sgt. Tom Walicki. They then took a tour of the police department, our patrol vehicles, and even learned about tasers and handcuffs.

(No 8th graders were harmed or arrested during today’s presentation!)
