Today’s Fishing Derby was a great success! Thank you to all who came out. MVPD was happy to be there. Officer Wolf and MVPD Superfan Jenilee Geldermann mingled with the public and helped them learn to fish. Officer Morgan even manned the grill, cooking up delicious snacks for all. Even our owl made an appearance.

The weather is getting warmer (well not today anyway) and local children will be out and about enjoying the fresh air and having fun. It's also the start of the Mont Vernon Police Department's Caught in the Act program.

If we catch your children out and about doing something safe and healthy or beneficial to the community, they can earn themselves a certificate for a free small Slush Puppie at the Mont Vernon General Store, just like Mont Vernon Village School student Briar Roy just did, who is shown proudly displaying her free Slush Puppie certificate when she was caught wearing her bicycle helmet while learning how to ride her bicycle. Congratulations Briar! The program runs through Labor Day. Have a safe and healthy summer kids!

Today, the Mont Vernon Village School's 5th Graders had their D.A.R.E. graduation. They had been working weekly with Officer D. since January learning about safe and responsible choices, communication, being good citizens, and a whole variety of topics.

Today was the reward for their efforts. They had lunch provided by Sal's Pizza of Milford and desert provided by The Black Forest Cafe and Bakery. Officer Barritt and K9 Mako from the Milford Police Department entertained the students and their families with a demonstration. The students also all wrote a D.A.R.E. essay and the two students voted on has having written the best essay each received their own Daren the D.A.R.E. lion stuffed animal to take home with them. Congratulations 5th Graders and thank you!

Last night, Officer Johnson located an injured owl (Barred Owl) with the assistance of Mont Vernon, NH Fire Department Deputy Chief Randy Wilson and former Hillsborough County NH Sheriff's Office High Sheriff Chris Connelly. The owl enjoyed luxury overnight accommodations at the Mont Vernon Police Department. Chief Slavin, Sergeant Daigneault, and Daren the D.A.R.E. Lion excitedly waited on him wing and foot and took some souvenir photos. NH Fish and Game gave him a VIP ride to Wings Wildlife Rehabilitation Center. He's is now Mont Vernon's official Owl of Justice.

The Mont Vernon Police Department is pleased to let the community know that we will be participating in the New Hampshire Blue Envelope Program. The Blue Envelope Program is a communication tool between law enforcement and people who may have autism spectrum disorder or trauma and stressor-related disorders.

It is intended to increase awareness that some drivers may communicate or respond differently and the program is meant to foster clearer communication and safer and more effective interactions for drivers and police officers. The participating driver may present a blue envelope to law enforcement when documentation is requested. The envelope may contain emergency contact information, communication preferences (limited speech, non verbal, etc.), sensory considerations (sensitivity to lights or noise), or other information. It will not display or disclose any specific diagnosis.

The program is completely voluntary and eligible individuals (see RSA 265:3-c) may request an envelope from the NH Division of Motor Vehicles in person or by mail. There is no cost to participate.
