Earlier today, officers of the Mont Vernon Police Department paid extra special attention to our community's roads to enforce speed limits in town in to ensure everyone gets to where they are going safely to celebrate the Labor Day Holiday and unofficial end of summer responsibly.

Thank you to everyone who can read and understand speed limit signs and drove safely within or through our community enroute to their final destination.

As for Becci, Joan, Bobbi, Karl, Autumn, Roger, Darrell, Ami, Jenilee, Palmer, Olegovich, Kevin, Ben, and Jay, it was a pleasure meeting all of you this morning.

We’re officially 30% of the way to bringing Daren the Lion to Mont Vernon! 🦁

Yes, technically we’re fundraising for a giant lion costume—but Daren is much more than a fun photo opportunity. Research on today’s D.A.R.E. program shows that when students are genuinely engaged, they experience stronger outcomes in decision-making, intentions to avoid drug use and other protective skills.

Kids remember how something made them feel. Daren gives our officer another way to make serious lessons feel approachable, build a positive connection with students and create an experience they’ll actually remember.

The Mont Vernon Village School students return for their first day on September 1st, along with the rest of the schools in SAU 39. Some important things to remember: stay alert for children walking near roadways and crossing streets; stop for school busses as required; obey speed limits, especially through school zones; and definitely don't text while driving. Help us help them get to and from school safely.

Officer Morgan dropped in on our fundraising team this morning! They are still working hard to bring the offical “Daren the Lion” Mascot to SAU39.

Thank you Officer Johnson for providing some much appreciated back-up at the Mont Vernon Recreation Department’s Trivia Night tonight. The competition was fierce but friendly, and only a little rowdy 😉. It seemed like everyone had a great time picking team names, answering the questions, and even teasing the judges. Congratulations to all the teams. You did an amazing job!
