Today the members of the Mont Belvieu Police Officers Association welcomed Mont Belvieu Police Chief Jimmy Ellison, who took his oath of office. Judge Jimmy Sylvia administered the oath. Those who attended and witnessed were family, friends, and law enforcement officers from many agencies. Chief Ellison’s reputation and professional experience was obvious by those who attended. Chief Ellison is about relationships, which was evident by his friends and professional police officers whom Chief Ellison and his wife Kathy have collected over his 37 years in law enforcement. We are honored and blessed to have Chief Jimmy Ellison as our new Chief of Police. The MBPOA encourages the citizens of Mont Belvieu to come alongside us in welcoming Chief Jimmy Ellison.

The officers and dispatchers of the Mont Belvieu Police Officers Association would like to congratulate one of our own, Dispatcher, “Mrs. Pat”, Patricia Meeler, on her retirement. We will miss your voice but know that your only a phone call away. Thank you for your dedication, professionalism, and your “momma’s” advice. Enjoy your time with your family. Thank you for your service.

The following is a post that was written by Mrs. Pat’s daughter, Laura Nicole:

Tonight as I get ready to settle in for my 12 hour shift it’s very bitter sweet for me. Tonight will be the last time I’ll hear my sweet mommas voice over the radio at our sister agency. Tonight, this amazing lady is hangin it up after 27 years.
Momma, I’m SO proud of you! You have impacted so many lives over the years. From deputies, to officers, to fellow dispatchers and among so many others. You have been such a mentor and guide to me in my own career. You have made so many sacrifices over the years for the love and passion you have had for your career. It’s time to sit back and enjoy the grand babies and take a break. We’ve got it from here momma. Thank you for your service and dedication to two amazing agencies. I know you will be greatly missed by so many. Happy retirement!!!

If you see my sweet momma out and about, please wish her well and thank her for her service 🥰

The police officers and dispatchers of the Mont Belvieu Police Officers Association welcome Chief Jimmy Ellison to the Mont Belvieu Police Department. Chief Ellison’s great reputation proceeds his arrival. He is well respected by many. We look forward to working with Chief Ellison.

The City of Mont Belvieu is proud to introduce Jimmy Ellison as the new Chief of the Mont Belvieu Police Department. Ellison is currently the chief of the Abilene Christian University Police Department in Abilene, Texas; a post he has held since 2001. “I am honored and humbled to be selected as the next Chief of Police for Mont Belvieu,” said Chief Ellison when asked about being chosen for the position. “I have been so impressed with the city and the growth, but most excited about the vision and forward thinking of the city leadership team. I look forward to working alongside the men and women of MBPD to continue to provide professional police services, and working with the citizens of Mont Belvieu to learn more about what they want from their police department as the city continues to grow.”

Ellison replaces long-serving MBPD Chief, Virgil Blasdel, who retired from the position in October after 36 years in law enforcement. Ellison will start with the City first quarter of 2021.

*How the Grinch Stole The Parade*

After Halloween in Mont Belvieu when the pumpkins are stowed away.
“What is next,” you might ask? “The Christmas Parade!”
All thoughts and plans turn to tinsel and light.
And everyone starts planning for a magical night.

But there was one, called the Grinch, who was rather disgruntled
Who snarled and sneered and finally grumbled,
“I must stop this… I must. I need a gimmick that’s slick!
I need something to scare them; a plan that will stick!”
So that Grinch went to grinching in his best grinchy way.
“Ah ha!” he exclaimed. “I know just what to say!”
“I’m covered in germs! It’s gross! You’ll get sick!”
And all of the people started backing up quick.
Yes, the dream of a parade was oh so desirous.
And that Mr. Grinch stopped it with his newfangled virus.

But, that didn’t stop all the people from smiling.
They all just continued with holiday styling.
The tinsel and bobbles and most of all lights
All went on display for those holiday nights.

The people weren’t scared of that Grinch or his illness
He couldn’t defeat the Christmas tranquilness.
Mont Belvieu would celebrate the great holiday season
With fun and activities all within reason.

For Santa will be busy throughout our fair town
He’ll have treats and waves and smiles all around.
He will visit neighborhoods, schools, businesses and more!
Keep your eyes and ears open for when he’ll be near your door. 🎄 🎅 🎁

We are truly sad that we have had to cancel this year's Christmas on the Hill Parade. But, the size and scope of the event is beyond what we are comfortable with given the continuing concerns of COVID-19; the safety and wellbeing of our community is our number one concern. We have a lot of amazing holiday celebrations planned that are more conducive to a healthy and happy environment. We will be releasing our full schedule of Christmas events soon!

The members of the MBPOA would like to congratulate Officer Seth Caruso on earning a title only a few can achieve in law enforcement, a certified SWAT officer. Seth is making history by becoming the very first Mont Belvieu Police Officer to hold that SWAT certification. We know he will represent the title and the department with courage and integrity. "You know what they say, you're either SWAT or you're not". We are proud of you!

Congratulations!
