🇺🇸 Memorial Day Update 🇺🇸

After discussions with American Legion Commander Carl Santos, we have made the difficult decision to cancel the Memorial Day Parade and Ceremony due to the forecasted rain continuing through Monday afternoon.

Lunch will still be served at 11:30 AM at TJ’s Tavern, 143 Palmer Road, as we come together to support and honor our veterans. Everyone is welcome.

Thank you for your understanding and continued support as we honor those who served our country. 🇺🇸

Posting for the Assessor's Office

The Assessor’s Office would like to inform residents that a contracted property data collector/inspector will be conducting exterior property inspections throughout the community over the coming weeks/weekends. His name is Alan Bishop and will be driving a Lincoln Corsair Plate .
These inspections are related to building permits issued within the past one to two years and are part of the Town’s ongoing property record maintenance program required under Massachusetts assessing standards.
The purpose of the visit is to verify that property record information is accurate and up to date following improvements or construction activity. Inspections may include measurements, photographs of the exterior, and verification of completed work associated with issued permits.
The inspector:
• Will carry identification
• Have a signed letter from Assessor’s Office
• Will not request entry into a home without the owner’s permission
Our cyclical inspection program, where all properties must be inspected every ten years and mandated by the Department of Revenue will begin in late summer/early fall. The public will be notified when this is set to begin.
If you have questions, please contact the Assessor’s Office at (413)-267-4120 or [email protected]
Thank you for your cooperation.

Sincerely,

Tomorrow Thursday May 7th the parking lot for Highway, water and fire departments will be closed starting at 8am. National grid along with other vendors will be on site to change out a pole and turn permanent power back on to the fire department. You will see a few fire trucks parked at the top of the driveway and at times our ambulance will be parked on Main Street in front of the fire hydrant at memorial hall. This work is expected to last all day and by Friday everything will be back to normal operations. Because of this work the Fire Department will be closed for any business transactions on Thursday as our phones and computers will be down due to the lack of power to memorial hall. The Highway and Water department will be running off back up generators during this time.

At 4:33 pm Westcomm regional dispatch alerted Monson Fire and Police to a reported tree that fell on to a house located at 23 Country Club heights. Crews arriving on scene found a large oak tree that had come down during high wind conditions and landed on the home causing structural damage. The homeowner contacted a local tree service to have the tree removed. Once completed the fire department returned to the scene to temporarily patch and tarp many holes in the roof prior to rain coming in over the next few days. Fire crews cleared the scene just before 8pm.
