In Monrovia, preparedness in the foothills also means sharing sharing space with wildlife. Here's how to keep your family and local animals safe:

- Secure trash cans & pick fallen backyard fruit daily.
- Keep pet food inside and supervise pets outdoors.
- If you see a bear or coyote: Stay calm, do NOT run, keep your distance, and make loud noises!

Through available Pasadena Humane services, you can also:
- Attend a free Exclusion Workshop to learn humane ways to animal-proof your property from a Certified Wildlife Technician.
- Get professional help preventing bears from denning under decks or crawl spaces through the Wildlife Exclusion Program. Services include home inspections, scent applications, and entry-point sealing.
- Visit pasadenahumane.org for workshop details, service options, and pricing

๐Ÿšฐ Drink plenty of water and keep hydrated throughout the day.
โ˜€๏ธ If you must go out, plan your day to avoid going out during the hottest hours and wear sunscreen.

โš ๏ธ Check on those at risk, like those who are sick, older adults, pregnant women, and children. Beware of heat-related illness, like heat stroke, and call 911 if you see these symptoms: high body temperature, vomiting, and pale and clammy skin.

What to expect:
- Approximately 6 miles of cycling with gradual elevation gain at a pace of 10-12 miles per hour (beginner/intermediate experience level)
- On-street biking, sharing space with cars and other roadway users
- Bike marshals will be present, helping lead the route and keeping the group together
- Share feedback on your experience riding in Monrovia through guided written and oral responses
- A fun evening spent with community!

What to bring:
- A functional bicycle or wheeled device (highly recommended with gears; e-bikes are welcome)
- A helmet (required for ages under 18)
- Water bottle (filled with water)
- Snacks (if needed)
- Bike lights (front white light and back red light)

An extreme heat watch is in effect for Monrovia, and we want everyone to stay safe this week.

A few reminders to keep get you through the heat:

โ˜€ Avoid the sun: Stay indoors when you can, cut back on outdoor physical activity, and if you do head out - wear light clothing, sunglasses, and be sure to apply sunscreen.

๐Ÿค Check on those at higher risk: Elderly neighbors, people without air conditioning, infants and young children, and anyone working or exercising outdoors face the highest risk of heat-related illness. A quick check-in to your family, friends, and neighbors could make a difference.

๐Ÿ’งStay hydrated: Drink water and even electrolytes throughout the day, even before you feel thirsty, and replenish salt and minerals if you're sweating a lot.

โ„ Stay cool indoors: If you don't have air conditioning, Monrovia's Community Center and Public Library are open and air-conditioned for anyone needing a break from the heat!
