Over on Twitter we've been asking a kinda critical question. Washington Post columnist Radley Balko is often cited as a police critic. Funny thing is, we can find no record of him reporting on actually observing police work. He wrote a 400-page book on SWAT practices that didn't contain a single first-hand observation.

We think that's odd. Would you trust a "football expert" who not only never played the game, but had never seen it played, aside from watching North Dallas 40? Of course not.

So, every day for the last 6 business days, we've asked. Strangely, he still hasn't responded.

Just watched the 60 minutes segment on the violence in Chicago. What a disgraceful journalistic mess. Anyone who follows Chicago PD knows that the "cop on the street" point of view is best captured by the Second City Blog. http://secondcitycop.blogspot.com/ So What's the one source 60 minutes ignores? Second City Cop Blog, of course. They did however genuflect at the thrown of Father Michael Pfleger. Who is "Pfather Pfleger?" Why one of the most unhinged, dishonest critics of the Chicago PD! What's the one topic they didn't ask him about? The fact that CPD's stunning drop in productivity was exactly timed with protests against CPD that he led.

It was 20-minutes of agenda-driven journalism, seeking absolutely no ground truth or actual facts. And, it was a classic example of why cops need PR protection for themselves.
