Sometimes, the hardest calls arenβt the ones we respond to for our community. Sometimes, they hit much closer to home.
Yesterday, one of our own members suffered a cardiac arrest while coming into work. In an instant, everything changed. While we are incredibly thankful that he is still with us, his condition remains touch and go, and the road ahead will be long, difficult, and uncertain.
Firefighters spend their lives answering the call when others need help. We train together, respond together, and stand beside one another through some of lifeβs most difficult moments. We become more than coworkers or fellow firefighters, we become family. And when one of our own is hurting, we all feel it.
Right now, our brother is fighting a battle no one ever expects to face. Our hearts are heavy, our thoughts are with him and his family, and we are holding on to hope as he begins the long road to recovery.
We ask our community to keep him and his family in your thoughts and prayers. Please give his family the time and space they need during this incredibly difficult time, and continue to send them love and support.
To our brother: Keep fighting. You are not alone. You have a whole department standing behind you, supporting you, and praying for you every step of the way. We look forward to the day we see you back with us.
Today, we are reminded that life can change in a heartbeat, that tomorrow is never promised, and that the bond we share as a fire service family runs deeper than words can explain.
