Over the past few months our department has gone through a lot of changes. One of the biggest changes is our commitment to training.

2 of our newer members have been going to class 2 to 3 times a week for the past couple of months working on their Firefighter 1 / 2 certifications. Please join us in wishing them thanks and congratulations. Today Jayden Baker passed his final test earning his FF2 certification and Angel Carter passed her skills for class at the live burn today with Monroe Fire Protection District.

Thanks to all of the instructors and staff helping our members become more prepared.

Gregg Township Fire Department Statement Regarding Charges Filed Against Former Deputy Chief Charles Heflin
Gregg Township, IN — The leadership of Gregg Township Fire Department is aware that on June 4, 2026, felony charges were filed in Morgan County Superior Court 3 against Charles Heflin. We wish to provide the public and media with the following statement.

While Charles Heflin did serve as Deputy Chief of the previous organization, he has not been a part of the current Gregg Township Fire Department, which was recently formed under new leadership. He has had no role or affiliation with this administration at any time.
We acknowledge that some of the charges stem from incidents that occurred during his tenure as Deputy Chief of the former entity. We want the public to know that the current leadership has worked diligently to assist investigators in any manner possible throughout this process. We remain fully committed to transparency and cooperation with law enforcement.

The alleged actions of the former Fire Chief Kemp and now new charges against former Deputy Chief Heflin do not in any way reflect the values, beliefs, or standards of the new administration or this department. We ask for the public's understanding and patience as we continue to work tirelessly to rebuild the trust this community deserves.
Our commitment is to provide a higher-quality service with more qualified and experienced crews than ever before. We are proud of the progress made and remain dedicated to the residents and families of Gregg Township.

We are so fortunate as a department to have part-time staff with such diverse backgrounds. At Gregg we have made a lot of changes lately and one of those happens to be adding drones to the department. One of our team members is not only an aircraft pilot, but also an experienced drone pilot. Our primary pilot was kind enough to spend her holiday doing some flight training with our crews. Drones are a huge asset to emergency services with search operations and assessments in large area incidents. We have ability to now operate with live camera views and Infrared and thermal imaging through live feed as well. This is a tool to help by increasing safety of our personnel and the community!

We keep posting pictures about our membership doing training. Tonight is no different.

We are striving to make ourselves better each and every day. Tonight some of our members as well as members from Monroe Twp Fire District were lucky enough to have IFD Captain Jim Pierce talk to the crews about arson investigations for the first responder.

Over the weekend the academy hosted our 1st National Fire Academy course since the federal government has reopened.

The two day course "Fire as a Weapon" was hosted at MADE at Plainfield with students representing the following agencies and counties:

Our members are constantly working on training and preparing themselves for the next emergency coming our way. During the month of April we had over 180 hours of logged training.
