6/03/2026 - 🦉 Summer Camp Spotlight: Owl Discovery Day! 🦉

Today, our campers at JF Shields Summer Camp became junior wildlife biologists as they explored the fascinating world of owls, with a special focus on the incredible Barn Owl!
Students learned all about owl adaptations, habitats, hunting behaviors, and the important role these nocturnal predators play in maintaining healthy ecosystems. They discovered how a barn owl’s exceptional hearing, silent flight, and keen eyesight make it one of nature’s most efficient hunters.
The excitement continued with a hands-on science activity—owl pellet dissection! Campers carefully examined owl pellets to uncover and identify the remains of prey animals, allowing them to determine what barn owls have been eating. By studying bones, fur, and other clues, students gained a real-world understanding of food chains, predator-prey relationships, and how scientists learn about wildlife diets in the field.
Learning came alive as curiosity, observation, and discovery took center stage. What a “hoot” of a day! 🦉🔍

5/18/2026 - Today our homeschool group and Camille Place residents brought coding to life with ✨OZO Bots✨ — and the students were completely engaged from start to finish!
These tiny robots introduce coding in a hands-on, screen-light way by using color-coded commands drawn directly on paper. Students learned how different combinations of colors tell the bots what to do:
🔵 Speed up
🟢 Slow down
⚫ Spin or change direction
🔴 Pause or perform special actions
By drawing specific color sequences with markers, students were essentially creating algorithms and programming pathways without needing advanced computer skills. Watching the bots follow their coded instructions helped students immediately see the connection between cause and effect in coding logic.

Beyond coding basics, OZO Bots help students develop so many valuable skills:
✨ Problem-solving
✨ Critical thinking
✨ Sequential reasoning
✨ Creativity and design
✨ Teamwork and collaboration
✨ Persistence through trial and error
One of the best parts was seeing students test, adjust, and improve their codes independently. They weren’t just playing with robots — they were learning how to think like programmers and engineers in a fun, approachable way.
STEM learning becomes so much more meaningful when students can see their ideas come to life right in front of them! 🚀
