🚨 ROAD CLOSURES – MONROE CHEESE FESTIVAL

The Monroe Cheese Festival will take place in the Village of Monroe on Saturday, September 12, 2026.

The following road closures will be in effect from 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Road Closures:

• Lake Street between State Route 17M and Carpenter Place
• Lake Street and Millpond Parkway intersection
• Stage Road from Smithfield Court to Carpenter Place

Detours will be in place. Please plan accordingly and allow additional time for travel.

On August 12, 2026, the Monroe Police Department hosted a successful Car Seat Check Event at Sacred Heart Church, where our certified Child Passenger Safety Technicians checked 35 car seats and provided families with important guidance on proper installation and child passenger safety. Keeping our youngest passengers safe is a community-wide effort, and we’re proud to continue working with our local partners to help families make sure their children are properly secured every time they travel.

A special thank you to Kecia from the Orange County Traffic Safety Program for her partnership and assistance in making this event a success!

Due to the overwhelming amount of support and interest from our community, our 2026 Youth Academy has officially reached capacity. We are no longer accepting new applications at this time.

We are incredibly grateful for the enthusiasm and excitement shown by so many families who want to be part of this program. Your support means so much to us!

We will be in contact shortly with everyone who has applied so far. If you missed out this year, be sure to keep an eye out for next year’s Youth Academy announcement, along with updates on the many other community events we look forward to sharing with you! We look forward to welcoming more young members of our community in the future!

🚨 Weather Alert: Tornado Watch in Effect

🌩️ Tornado Watch Issued for Orange County Until 9:00 PM 🌩️

Orange County remains under both a Tornado Watch and Flood Watch through this evening as multiple rounds of showers and thunderstorms move through the region.

*WATCH* = Conditions are favorable for hazardous weather - be prepared to act.

While a tornado is NOT occurring at this time, residents should remain weather aware and be prepared to take immediate action if a warning is issued.

• Have multiple ways to receive weather alerts this afternoon and evening. If a Tornado Warning is issued, move immediately to the lowest level of a sturdy building, away from windows.

• Heavy rainfall may produce localized flash flooding, especially in low-lying and flood-prone areas. Never drive through flooded roadways. Turn Around, Don't Drown.

• Orange County Emergency Services continues to monitor conditions in coordination with the National Weather Service and our local, state and regional partners. We will provide updates as needed.

🚓 Youth Police Academy – Now Accepting Applications! 🚓

The Monroe Police Department is excited to announce that registration for our 2026 Youth Police Academy is officially open!

This hands-on program gives local youth the opportunity to learn about law enforcement through interactive activities, demonstrations, team-building exercises, and presentations from police officers and other first responders. Participants will gain valuable insight into the many roles and responsibilities of law enforcement while building confidence, leadership skills, and positive relationships with our officers.

Space is limited and spots fill quickly, so don't wait to register! We look forward to another great year of learning, teamwork, and fun.
