This weekend, young cyclists from the community joined us at the Bicycle Rodeo to sharpen their skills and learn crucial bike safety tips. 🚲

From professional helmet fittings and hand signal practice to navigating our fun obstacle course challenges, our goal was to make safe riding empowering and exciting.

Thank you to the Orange County STOP DWI & Traffic Safety Program, who was on-site providing vital car seat education and safety checks for families!

We also want to give a special shout-out and thank you to Walmart Monroe and ShopRite of Monroe for their incredibly generous donations that made this event possible!

The Monroe Police Department reached a significant milestone on June 4, 2026, when it was reaccredited by the New York State Division of Criminal Justice Services (DCJS), marking 25 consecutive years of accreditation.

This achievement reflects a quarter-century commitment to professionalism, accountability, and service to the Monroe community. Participation in the DCJS Accreditation Program demonstrates the department’s commitment to professional police services, excellence, integrity, and continuous improvement.

Chief Darwin Guzman and Lieutenant Timothy Young attended the DCJS Accreditation Council Meeting in Albany, New York, where the department was formally recognized for consistently meeting rigorous law enforcement standards.

During the meeting, Lieutenant Young, the department’s Accreditation Program Manager, received the John Kimball O’Neil Certificate of Achievement for his dedication to the accreditation process.

Chief Guzman stated, “This achievement reflects our department’s dedication and commitment to the highest standards of service.”

Chief Guzman commended Lieutenant Young for his leadership in maintaining the department’s accredited status and also thanked Mayor Alex Melchiorre and the Village Board for their continued support, stating, “The Mayor and Village Board’s support is vital to maintaining accreditation and serving our community.”

The department remains committed to maintaining the highest standards of professionalism and accountability while strengthening trust and partnerships within the community it serves.

🚧 ROAD CLOSURE ADVISORY – VILLAGE OF MONROE 🚧

Please be advised that several roads in the Village of Monroe will be temporarily closed on Sunday, May 24, 2026, for the Memorial Day Parade.

The parade will begin at 1:30 PM at Smith’s Clove Park.

The following road closures will be in effect between 1:15 PM - 3:00 PM:

• State Route 17M between Still Road and Lake Street

• Lake Street between State Route 17M and Carpenter Place

• Carpenter Place to Spring Street

• Millpond Parkway at the intersection of Lake Street

Please note that all times are approximate. Detours will be in place, so motorists are encouraged to plan ahead and allow for additional travel time.

Earlier today, following a domestic incident on Miller Lane in the Village of Monroe, a male subject fled the scene on foot. Multiple law enforcement agencies immediately initiated a coordinated search. As a result, Jose Mendoza Ramos was located and taken into custody without further incident.

Jose Mendoza Ramos is awaiting arraignment on the following charges:
• PL 120.05(2) - Assault 2nd Degree
• PL 215-51 - Criminal Contempt 1st Degree
• PL 120.00(1) - Assault 3rd Degree
• PL 120.14(1) - Menacing 2nd Degree
• PL 121.11(A) - Criminal Obstruction of Breathing
• PL 135.05 – Unlawful Imprisonment 2nd Degree
• PL 265.01(1) - Criminal Possession of a Weapon 4th Degree

We thank the New York State Police, New York State Police Aviation Unit, Town of Woodbury Police Department, Town of Chester Police Department, and Village of Washingtonville Police Department for their assistance.

We also thank the community for their patience and understanding during the police activity in the area.
