We really need the tennis community to come together and get the word out for us in a short time. We have been told by Brandon Buras (Deputy Assistant Secretary at Louisiana Office of Culture, Recreation and Tourism, who is over the grant we have applied for) that we are currently NOT in the top 10 applicants for this grant. There were several issues with the first version of the grant that was turned in. The major issue is that the state lost our application until just a few weeks ago. This has put us behind everyone else in working to get questions answered that the State asked. Rod Guy has been working tirelessly to get this grant written and re-written. He totally reworked the grant to give the land on top of the old pool to the soccer folks in trade for the land behind the two "new" courts at Forsythe, going all the way to the ball field. This will give us all of the courts at Forsythe in one location, which is ideal for USTA events as well as for Mark to be able to maintain the courts. Rod has worked with folks in Baton Rouge and was told we really need to get this survey (see link below) filled out by as many folks as possible. Brandon went to OCS and LA Tech and has promised to do what he can to help us get this pushed through if we will do our part and get the required responses to their questions. Since his boss stepped down, Brandon is the top dog at the department currently. We need to take advantage of having someone friendly with NELA while we can. These grants have not been awarded to anyone in NELA in over 20 years!
This is where YOU come in. First, fill out the survey yourself. Mainly, we need you to help disseminate the link below to as many tennis folks as we can. We need to get this to all of the teaching pros and ask that they get it to their students. It's a big plus if we can have a large contingency of under 18 folks fill this out. Don't worry about sending it to someone that may or may not have already gotten it. They can delete it easily enough if they get it twice. Any help you can give would be MUCH appreciated by the Northeast Louisiana Community Tennis Association!!
